The pedals are too close to each other. The brake pedal is too far to the left and far away. My foot only covers half of the pedal. It's not directly underneath your foot like in other cars. To apply the brake, you have to twist/bend your leg and foot to the left and at an angle that causes knee pain/pressure.
The accelerator is placed too close to the brake pedal. My foot often "catches" on the brake or accelerator pedals when switching from stopping to accelerating. Unsafe. The footwell is very narrow and the center console takes up space and pushes into your right leg. Ford probably didn't take this into account and put the pedals wherever they could fit them.
No seat adjustment is able to fix the problem.
I read a review of the c-max where someone said the seats are mounted too high, that could be part of the problem.
I also drive a Mazda CX-5 and have no pain whatsoever when operating the pedals or when sitting in the driver seat, even after a 3 hour drive.
I also drove a 2013 Escape for 4 years and while the pedals and seats were similar to the C-Max, I was able to get comfortable. I have also driven a Jeep Compass for about 6 hours with no issues or discomfort when pressing the pedals. It is a problem with this car specifically. Maddening and very unsafe. I always worry that my foot is going to get caught on the wrong pedal which could lead to a very dangerous situation.
