Our Ford Cmax Energi's HV battery started to fall short on the total charge it received after being on the charger overnight. In January of 2024, we took it to the Ford Dealer in Nampa Idaho to be diagnosed and repaired. They replaced a part they called a switch and after 12 days we paid $1,341 dollars for the repair. When we drove it home it did not fully charge the next morning. Because we could not be without a car for another 12 days we waited until April 17th, 2024, to take it back to them to fix the problem they had failed to fix in January. It is not May28th 2024, and the car is still at the dealership while their technicians as well as those from Detroit are texting back and forth trying to diagnose the problem. After the first weekend we were provided with a loaner car. Compared to the Cmax it gets terrible gas mileage and we have spent over $100.00 during this month for gas when the Cmax would only have used $30.00 work of gas. Big hit to a retired senior's budget. We have contacted Ford Motor Company and received a case number and an advocate intended to help us with the failure to make repairs on our car. They are ineffective and of little value as far as we can tell as of this date.
The people we are working with have been very polite but unable to effect any progress on our repairs.
WE have researched this problem on the internet and find it to be the leading issue, as far as we can tell, with this vehicle. Other than this glaring issue the car has been a great car. We have achieved as high as 90 miles per gallon in the past, but this issue has reduced that to just over 50 miles per gallon. It has been a good car, but this repair issue is ridiculous. Ford needs to give more attention to this problem of find a way to compensate us for their failure to fix our car.
Update from Jun 5, 2024: We have talked by telephone to a Ford Advocate as well as the Service Manager at Corwin Ford. They have expressed frustration that they cannot find the problem with the HV battery after many attempts as well as reprograming many of the computer modules. However, They have just contacted us and for no diagnosable reason the battery is now charging properly and wed will be picking up the car today. They want us to use it normally and see what happens, Also, our advocate just called us and has informed us that, because of the long time in the shop (Over 1 month) they will be making one payment on our loan for us. We should receive that payment in about 7 working days. We now have the car and will be driving it until it has depleated the HV battery. We will charge it tonight and see what happens. Wish us luck.
Update from Aug 16, 2024: Did not work. Had it back in the shop and they finally received an error code. It was the same thing they replaced in Frbruary/March of this year. It is now August, and we are scheduled to have the &1,300.00+ part replaced again. This time on the part's warranty. Again wish us luck with the replacement. Goes into the shop next Tuesday with a promise to have trhe car Thursday evening.
