We purchased this vehicle strictly because it offers FLAT TOW mode. When you engage in neutral flat tow mode, it is digital and flashes on the dash screen like you won something and it verifies this stating “ Vehicle is in neutral flat tow mode” when you engage it. We have towed it numerous times and noticed an odd smell when we disconnect from the coach but thought it was normal. While in flat tow, we saw smoke coming out of the Bronco on our monitor and had to pull over and quickly, disconnect our moto coach as the Bronco appeared to be on fire. The transmission blew.
Somehow while in neutral flat tow mode, there appears to be a glitch where it moves out of this mode somehow, or just flat out faulty transmission. After 2 months going back and forth, Ford says they believe it is our fault and will not cover the $16k in repairs. We have spoke with numerous people in Bronco forums where they had the same issue. Now we are being forced to fix it ourselves and have to sell it since the 2021 model IS NOT SAFE to FLAT TOW. Had we not immediately been able to pull over and disconnect our moto coach and extinguish the smoke, we would have lost everything. Anyone using this model to flat tow is in danger and Ford will not back you on the warranty.
