Keep in mind at this point I've owned the car for a total of almost 19 days but 12 of those days were spent with the car in the dealership.
Fast forward about 6 weeks, I noticed that the transmission seems to jerk a bit between 2-3 gear and then again between 7 & 8 (it's a 9-speed automatic). The car is due for its first oil change (complementary of the dealership of course) so I take it in (on a Thursday) and mention the weird shifting behavior. I've driven manual transmissions for the last 20 years so I didn't really think it was a problem just seemed like kind of odd shift behavior. Stop to pick the car up at the end of the day, because I have to leave it at the dealership all day for an oil change, to find out the car isn't done and there is a problem with the transmission. My appointment was at 8:30 but I received no call, no text no nothing before I got there at 5. They tell me the technician is going to have to look at it and it probably won’t be ready before the next Monday or Tuesday. They replace the valve housing in the transmission and tell me it’s all set. I finally picked it up on the Tuesday. So that’s another 5 days without my car and it is still shifting hard between 2 & 3rd gear but only part of the time. I’ve had the car for not quite four (yes 4) months and it’s spent almost 20 days in the shop for repairs. Now, we’ve contacted Chrysler about these issues and their response is that unless it’s in the shop for the same issue 3 times, they are not obligated to do a damned thing. So here I sit, with a brand new car that is not reliable or even usable. I get into every morning wondering what the hell is going to go wrong now. Then I come to find out that the transmission they used in the 500X is also used in the Jeep Cherokee and hey, guess what, they’ve had issues there too.
Bottom line: Don’t buy the Fiat 500X. It is not worth it and Chrysler treats its customers like crap. This is why I should have stuck with a Toyota.
