On a recent trip into the mountains the car was parked for 4 hours after a 2 hour drive. Upon returning to the car to leave, the parking brake would not disable. After turning it off and on 2 more times, the brake disabled and we were able to drive home. The following day I took the car in to have it checked, and upon starting it the same situation happened, the brake would not disable when pressing the button. It finally turned off and I went to the service center where the technician showed me how to reset the status. He did a quick inspection of the brakes and found nothing wrong with anything since the brakes are all less than 1,000 miles old. He suggested the system was throwing a failure due to the brakes being overworked and then cooling and retracting off the rotors. He mentioned this is a fairly common issue with the EPB equipped cars. This was not only a nuisance but quite frightening as I was with my family high up in the mountains unsure if we were going to be able to drive home.
