CarComplaints.com Notes: Considering sales numbers and data that monitors complaints-per-make, there appears to be an unusually high number of issues with the 2012 Fiat 500. Perhaps that isn't surprising -- it is the first model year of the car, and those tend to have a higher incidence rate.
Of particular concern is the number of engine and powertrain complaints submitted to NHTSA.

I bought a 2013 Fiat 500 (brand new) from Spesbona Motors (Fiat Agents at the time) in Windhoek at the time in February 2013 with VIN no: ZFA31200000907658 and Engine nr: 169A44444166234 for my wife. She started complaining after 2 months that there is something wrong with the range of the onboard computer, it indicates that there is still 200km over to drive with the vehicle and when she fills the vehicle at that time, the vehicle takes 28 liters of fuel in the 30 liter tank. We took the vehicle to the Fiat Agents in Windhoek, but after several attempts ( 5 times) this problem is still not solved.
After the first service (February 2014) the ABS light started coming on from time to time and there was a funny grinding nose coming from the front wheels from time to time. The vehicle went to the agent several times, but this was also not sorted to date.
In December 2014 the Fiat Franchise was given to M&Z Motors who is now the new Fiat Agents. When the vehicle was with them for the second service (February 2015) the problems with the vehicle was once more discussed. Their response to this was that they will see what they can do for us, but their workshop personnel just started with the Fiat training. The vehicle went to them several times the past months (4 times)
I’m very unhappy with the fact that the dealers cannot or will not assist us sorting out these problems we have with the vehicle, even if the vehicle is still under the warranty and service plan. There latest excuse is that they cannot assist us and are waiting for someone from South Africa to assist us.
