It first started with the lowest grade of Limp Home Mode, which is reduced power no turbo, takes 1 mile to get up to 45 mph. All dealers kept blaming the EGR which was bad and was replaced once. Then the dealer would reset the ECU and tell me to replicate the 2nd of 2 DTC's 2510 turbo regulator and 2511 EGR positioner error. The 1st LHM occured at 11,680 miles but never showed a DTC for them to repair. After it became worse codes started showing up, but very difficult to reproduce. The EGR code has not come back since it was replaced, however I've had 300+ LHM's but rarely a DTC to document or diagnose a problem for a tech to repair. Finally after learning alot about the Sprinter on Sprinter-source forum I learned how to replicate the code for them to repair. Now after many bad service work visits, I changed dealers and went to a Mercedes dealer that promised me they could do warranty work, their work order identified the problem code 2510 again and showed they ordered the part. Only to find out weeks later after a few calls that they would not repair under warranty unless I paid in full , if they were reimbursed then I would too. I didn't have 5700.00 to risk on an unknown promise. Now I am here still trying to get it repaired but it sometimes is difficult to replicate the code. I bring it in they reset it and can't replicate it themselves so I have to do it for them. But since they can't replicate it, its not a real problem. The van now has gotten much worse and LHM's everyday, and we are arguing about my day of inception which they have documented as 2 weeks before I even flew out and picked up my van and paid for it. I suggest you learn how to replicate the codes if you have them and stay on top of the issue rather than waiting for it to come back on its own. For the last 4 years I had a van ( still do) that cannot tow a 600 lb trailer or drive with a heavy load. Anything over 500 lbs triggers the boost controller failure. I love my van don't want to get rid of it, but I sure would love it to be fixed properly. Even tho I have all my documentation from numerous visits and my actual sales receipt and financed thru chrysler its still a hassle as I haven't received approval in 2 weeks of waiting. Almost all of the sprinter franchises have lost theirs or been forced to get out of the Sprinter line with the Diamler / Dodge split. This leaves me with only 2 dodge dealers and the only close 1 is incompetent. Funny how after my warranty is over every dealer knows exactly what part is causing the problem, and of course its a $3300.00 turbo. I recommend everyone looking to purchase a sprinter, buy one from a Hoekstra Freightliner dealer as they are the ONLY technicians that know how to repair these vans/RV's/busses correctly the first time. When they wanna replace the EGR, MAKE SURE they also clean or replace the cooler to, if the EGR is bad the cooler is worse. Rarely do they ever fix the cooler. The root cause of 90%of LHM's comes down to the EGR system and the Charge air system. Do not let any one use non-dpf or mercedes approved oil in your van. Many in our area do which plugs the DPF,EGR & EGR cooler.
