The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 07V555000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift) and immediately called the dealer. A technician stated that he would have to pay a diagnostic fee prior to the repair and the parts were unavailable. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 90,000.
: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on the highway, the vehicle hesitated and lost power without warning. It was maneuvered off the road and towed to the dealer, who determined the transmission needed to be replaced. Also, while driving various speeds, the driver seat moved. The dealer determined a bolt fractured and the track needed to be replaced.
Transmission was defective. Consumer picked up the vehicle from the dealership after they repaired it. While driving 65 mph consumer heard a loud clanking noise and the rpms shot up from 2000 to 7000 rpms. Consumer almost lost control of the vehicle. Consumer eventually pulled over to the side of the road. The transmission only had 1st and 2nd gears, and had to drive in second gear only.
Consumer states that while driving transmission makes a "knocking" noise, especially when vehicle is changing gears. Dealer has inspected vehicle 4X and is unable to determine cause.
I got 2 month out of the replacement part because of the mileage now I have to replace it again $550 every 2 month because Dodge doesn't want to admit there is a problem with this transmission (47re).
At low speed and with out warning gear will pop out of set gear and vehicle will then stall. Dealer has been notified. However, mechanic was unable to solve the problem.
When pulling fifth wheel trailer or going up a hill, transmission tried to find a gear or keep shifting back and forth until a gear was found. Also, engine will over rev. Contacted dealer who indicated to shift automatic vehicle like it was a standard. Consumer states the trailer is always pulled with the overdrive turned off and that the shifting problem is in any gear when the rpms drop, below 2000 rpms.
Transmission has gone out three times: First time was in May 02 when his clutch plates burned out and had to be replaced. Since then he has had to replace his coverter torch which were bad, causing solenoid pack to be replaced. Then, last time selenoid had again to be replaced.

There was no transmission fluid leakage on my driveway where I park the vehicle at home.

While traveling at 50mph there would be a high pitch whine. Going 45mph would have a dronning noise/ out of round. Have taken vehicle to dealership, and was informed that noise was noticeable. Mechanic waiting on technical service bulletin before repairing transmission. Dealer informed consumer to only use overdrive even when towing.
