This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram van. While driving approximately 15 mph in rainy weather, the contact turned the steering wheel quickly to the left and the steering column locked. He was unable to steer to the right and crashed into a railroad gate. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed. Months later, the contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign id number 07V555000 (power train:automatic transmission:lever and linkage:column shift). He filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. The current and failure mileages were 87,000. Updated 01/29/08. Updated 01/29/08
The column shifter has broken down a total of five times since Oct 2001. It has been fixed each time by antwerpen Dodge at no cost. Would like to thank Mr. Elliot abascal of antwerpen Dodge at 12420 auto dr., clarksville, md 21029, phone number 410 531 5701. This is the first Dodge truck that I owned and it's been a major disappointment, considering the fact that I paid over $21,000 of my hard earned money and have to repeatedly turn it in for service. This is unacceptable. More importantly, if I were to engage the steering colum and it malfunctioned, I may get into a serious accident. Somebody may be hurt or even killed. Don't know what else to say except that I will not buy a Dodge Ram again unless this matter is resolved. Will go back to buying Chevy trucks. I can be reached at 410 674 2667 or 301 429 5514 (work). Respectfully, ltc daniel L. bloom, jr.
