Ever since I bought my truck there has been an issue with having to keep adjusting the shifter cable in the steering column. This problem is a pain in my ass because it needs adjusted multiple times a year. The gear selector goes away so you have to count the gears when you want to drive the truck. Also the vehicle is prone to not being in the right gear like park so the truck could potentially take off on me.
So Chrysler decided that the best fix for this problem is to sound the factory alarm, horn, and lights flashing annoying not only you all the time but annoying your neighbors and anyone within a mile of my truck whenever it decides to mess up which is a lot. How is this a fix when I have to take my truck in, leave it for a day so the mechanic can adjust the cable every few months.
I finally disconnected and pulled my horn relay so it wouldn't go off all the time. It has coasted me anywhere from $40-$120 to adjust the shifter cable. Why, because some mechanics look at me with a stupid look and say what are you taking about, adjust your shifter cable, how in the hell am I supposed to do that. Never heard of doing that they say. Every time I want to back onto my trailer (keep in mind everyone has there own way and are comfortable with this way) I usually back onto my trailers for over 25 years now with my driver door open so I can pop in and out to look at where I am or where the trailer tongue is compared to my truck hitch several times. Well you can't do that with my truck since the cable is always out of adjustment and the dealer flashed the computer in my truck years ago with their fix to the gear selector problem where the alarm sounds off and flashes if you open the door with a gear selector that doesn't read right and shifter cable mis-adjustment problem.
I am mechanically inclined and have been since I was a little boy but being disabled now I can't even fix this problem myself since it isn't that difficult of a job.
