I bought the truck in Sept.01 and overdrive went out in Jan 02and now again in March 02 seems everyone is having this problem I am currently putting in a 6spd conversion kit which is costing me $4000.
While driving to work (62-miles), the engine seemed to provide no power to transmission. I parked the truck and noticed red colored transmission fluid dripping where transmission meets the engine (seal). Truck was towed to anderson Dodge in rockford, il. There was no transmission fluid leakage on my driveway where I park the vehicle at home.
Brake shoes had 65% of the pads remaining however the rivets holding the pads onto the brake shoes came loose on 3 of the four brakes.the service mgr. Told me that he felt this is a defect of the brakes however I still had to pay the entire bill.the auto matic transmission has leaked fluid after 5 different attempts to fix it by the dealer.still leaks
Truck parked, engine running. Tried to remove igntion key from the outside of the vehicle, vehicle rolled downhill, possible transmission slippage.indicated in park the whole time.crashed after rolling into neighbor's yard

While traveling at 50mph there would be a high pitch whine. Going 45mph would have a dronning noise/ out of round. Have taken vehicle to dealership, and was informed that noise was noticeable. Mechanic waiting on technical service bulletin before repairing transmission. Dealer informed consumer to only use overdrive even when towing.
We have tried to get this transmission repaired/replaced since purchase date. We have gone thru the lemon law process, as a result it was labeled a "life threatening malfunction or nonconformity that impedes the consumer's ability to control or operate the vehicle for ordinary use or reasonable intended purposes ore creates a risk of fire or explosion." [rcw 1931183021(18)] we have spoke to many others with transmission problems who own Dodge Ram trucks. I understand now, thru hindsight, that Dodge trucks with this particular transmission are noted for problems.
When travling at any speed vehicle becomes diffcult to change into 3rd or 4th gear. When temperature gets colder situation becomes worse. Contacted dealer, and dealer was willing to replace transmission.
Consumer tried to put car in drive and it felt like it was in neutral. To go in reverse has to put it into neutral. To drive it has to be in 2nd gear. Took to dealer.
Several Dodge Ram owner w/ automatic trans and diesel engines have also reported trans problems, this one inparticular would not shift into overdrive at all.
