While driving on interstate highway in my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel truck the check engine light came on and the engine shut down. It appeared that a fuel line had ruptured. Fuel had sprayed on the engine and fuel was visibly leaking from the engine. The truck was towed to the Dodge dealership where I was told that the number 4 injector tube had broken. The truck was repaired and everything seems to work properly. I discovered that there are multiple instances listed on internet forums related to the number 4 injector tube and clamp holding the fuel line on 2006 Dodge Ram trucks with the cummins diesel. The fact that the number 4 injector tube (out of 6 total) is the only injector tube that appears to have this problem and the fact that fuel is sprayed on a hot engine creating a safety issue should warrant further investigation and design review. I contacted Chrysler customer service to inform them of the issue and to see if any repair considerations were available. Chrysler customer service did not offer any repair considerations because they said my truck warranty had expired. Chrysler did not acknowledge this issue as anything other than a repair let alone as a safety issue. Any consideration for review of what I believe to be a safety issue would be greatly appreciated. Dodge truck, 2500 with 6.1 liter cummins. Fuel rail broke at 112,000 miles. Diesel fuel was pumped out onto exhaust manifold. Extreme smoke, but no fire. Truck has been excellently maintained per manufactures booklet.
2006 Dodge Ram. Consumer states while driving the check engine light came on and the vehicle shut down and went into safe mode. The consumer stated the truck was towed to the dealer and they found a problem with some of the injector. Eight injectors had to be replaced within the past year and some of the wires were replaced. When the consumer contacted Chrysler, he was informed repairs were not going to be authorized because the vehicle wa performing as designed. Chrysler advised the consumer to continue to drive the vehicle until it malfunctions again.
Upon entering the freeway and just getting up to freeway speed, the right (driver-side) rear tire separated from the tread causing the vehicle swerve violently. Driver was able to recover and stay on the road. Extensive damage to wheel well, right rear quarter panel, bumper, taillight, and tailgate. No other vehicles involved.
Driving my 06 Dodge Ram mega cab 2500 5.9L diesel, the #4 fuel line cracked directly behind the nut on top of the engine. This happened in Dec 09 and happened again in Jan 11. This caused a few gallons of fuel to leak onto the hot engine which could have caused a fire due to the distance I had to drive (no services near for 15 miles in the middle of alaskan winter). Truck was towed to the local Dodge dealer and part was replaced since engine was still under warranty. This time the part is $64 dollars and labor is $130.

The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the check engine light illuminated. The dealer was notified and the contact was awaiting a response. The manufacturer had not been notified. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were 59,249. Updated 01/24/11 according to the invoice, the dealer found a fuel leak under the hood. Updated 03/23/11
#4 fuel injector line failure, 2006 Dodge 2500 diesel, one owner, never wrecked. Sprayed fuel all over under hood and on exhaust with a lot of smoke and strong diesel smell. According to Dodge parts department, this part, cummings part #508674ab, goes bad so often that it is the only fuel injector line out of a possible six lines that they keep in stock. The potential for a fire, with this failure, is, in my opinion, is very high. A recall is in order. I am a retired auto mechanic with about 40+ years experience.
Faulty fuel filter system on Dodge diesel trucks. I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 Ram diesel truck with 19000 miles on it. I had an issue of it losing power, replaced the filter, then within 3000 miles it happened again. I replaced the filter again, but it still did not help much. I drove to the dealer, and it died within a few hundred yards. Finally got it to the dealer, they had to tow it in. The dealer said it was bad diesel that plugged the fuel injectors and ruined the injection pump. The insurance company sent a lab for tests, they say the fuel is normal. Now I'm stuck with a $10,000 repair bill that should have been under warranty with Dodge. If the fuel is normal, why wouldn't the filter do it's job. I've seen some reports on the internet that some dealers are adding a second filter onto their trucks to prevent this. The service tech said they see this often, but the insurance will usually pay. If they see it often, isn't this a faulty design"??"
There is an intermittent long start time on the 06 Dodge cummings diesel (10 to 15 seconds). After first 400 miles the truck was brought back to dealership and in formed that approximately 1/3 of the time the truck has a starting time of 10 to 15 seconds, was told they had a computer fix. Installed update and problem persisted. Took back to dealer and was told Dodge is aware of problem but has no fix. It is June of 06 and they have known of problem should have made me aware of this before I bought truck.
Have a 2005 Dodge cummins, and a 2006 Dodge cummins. They were built with an upgraded injection system, that has a one micron injector.. after a short time the injectors become plugged the computer system reacts by sometimes decelerating and other times the engine tries to run away or accelerate without your foot on the pedal, the times that happened was fortunately at a light with engine idling. This has happened to both the 2005 and 2006 trucks repaired by Dodge no warranty repair at great cost they say bad fuel that is their standard line, met a guy yesterday who had 2004 his did this eleven times, bad fuel bad fuel he said all his friend were buying diesel at the same place, no problem. I own five Dodge cummins pickups have never had this problem before they upgraded their injection system....
