I bought the truck new in 2007. At first I was in love with it until I was at the dealership for routine service and they tell me that my front brakes were totally burnt up and my back needed rotors and brakes as well. At just 10,000 miles I wasn't worried, I figured I had some warranty left, the three years wasn't up for another month. Well fix it, I said, then they ask me if I'm sure, that it was going to be $850 to do so. I ask about the warranty, no warranty, the problem was caused by rust from lack of use. I told them never mind I would fix it myself.
So I buy the parts, clean up the calipers, sliders everything. I made sure the fluid was clean, put every thing back together and all was fine for about 10,000 miles. In PA we have to have an annual inspection so I take it in. The owner of the local garage is a friend of mine so he calls me to tell me that they put a new sticker on it but I needed front brakes asap. I go to the garage and was very livid. I ask him to show me. We pull the front left wheel and the brake is shot. I ask him if the other was as bad he said not as bad but bad enough. I have him fix it. He tears everything apart, cleans everything up, tells me it wasn't too dirty, puts it back together, all is fine.
5000 miles later the front left starts smoking, I call my friend to have it fixed. He calls me says it was fine not sticking and he couldn't figure it out. Upon further inspection the rear calipers were shot and needed to be replaced. So that's done, all is well, or is it????? Hell no, 5000 miles later both front calipers take turns hanging up. One goes, magically stops, and the other starts.
This truck has 30,000 miles on it, if it wasn't for the lifetime power train warranty I'd go back to Ford and get rid of it..... I still might if Chrysler can't come up with anything other than it sets too much. My 1990 Ford Thunderbird SC has67,000 original miles on it and sits all winter. My son has a 1983 Thunderbird turbo that sat for 7 years, we have no such problem with them.
