Purchased this 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab 4 x 4 new and have maintained this vehicle as if it were new the entire time. Serviced reg, kept in garage, never wrecked, NOT in a salt air environment and looks brand new on the inside. Noticed that the paint was coming off on the cab and is denigrating other places. Took it to a body shop to have a quote on painting. Come to find out, Dodge admitted that the paint on this year's truck was defective & had no clear coat. Contacted Dodge through letters to corporate. There is nothing wrong with the truck except that Dodge's paint was defective.
As was told to them - there is very little trade in value due to the paint being defective. Dodge also stated that the paint company has warranties that has nothing to do with Dodge so it would be my responsibility to correct their mistake. "Their solution was to give me up to a 4% discount (off the sticker price) on a new truck or would work on a trade in which equals out to approximately $2,000 +/- either way. Dodge also stated that most people don't keep trucks that long." Wow, Dodge needs to spend the money to fix what they knew was wrong to begin with.
Update from Sep 19, 2014: Dodge had a representative call me several times after sending a certified letter. To begin with the representative did not have the information that was clearly stated in the letter, second once I gave it to him again he made to suggestions. One take the truck to Maco & for $500 I could have it repainted or they would give me up to 4% off a new truck (+/- $2,000). I was insulted that he would even suggest taking this truck to get a cheap paint job. Then I told him I wasn't interested in a new truck as there is nothing wrong with this truck except for the faulty paint job that Dodge did and even admitted what happened. The representative called by several times trying to sell a new truck. Finally told the representative again, that I wasn't interested in a new truck but did want Dodge to hold up on their end. This truck has never been wrecked, kept in a garage and is only used to pull a horse trailer. From that point forward there has been no contact. Will be sending another certified letter.
