I bought this truck because I had another Dodge Ram and was really happy with it. Almost immediately I started to notice cracks forming on the dashboard. I thought this was odd since I had always protected the dash from the sun. Pretty soon a giant sinkhole opened up, with the whole dash just disintegrating by about 70,000 miles!
At first it was just ugly and annoying because you buy a new truck, you want it to look nice too. Then the pieces began to blow around the cab when I ran the fan, getting into my eyes! Talking to other dodge owners with 2001 on up, they have the same complaint, and are really worried what those sharp pieces could do in the event that the air bags deploy. I hadn't even thought of that, but is now a great concern. Being impaled by sharp shards of plastic shrapnel in the event of a fender bender is not a good thought.
Now the wiring is failing under the open sinkhole, because of the exposure. Speakers failed, and lights starting to occasionally shut off while driving! Called the Dodge dealership who won't do ANYTHING, after my mechanic told me he repairs these all the time, only to have to replace again in a couple of years if using Dodge parts! This is an expensive and dangerous problem that Dodge won't fix. So much for standing behind their products! Instead of RAM Tough, it seems to be RAM tough luck! Dodge needs to make this right, or it is the last Dodge I will ever buy.
