This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
While driving my father's 1999 Dodge 250 diesel pickup at any speed between 35 and 65 mph, the cruise control would not disengage when brakes were applied. Engine raced and attempted to maintain cruise speed. Accident averted by switching off cruise control. Event duplicated many times under safe and controlled conditions. No maintenance performed yet. Dealer contacted but unaware of this failure scenario.
Whenever the consumer sets the cruise control vehicle accelerates beyond what he sets it.... this ws a gradual thing.riginally, cruise control would maintain set speeds after it was up tp normalrunning temperature. Later, it wouldn't hold set speed at all. Had it repaired. Consumer's 7 year-100,000miles warranty did not apply to this vehicle.
Cruise control on vehicle will surge 10-15mph over speed at which it is set. In one instance the unit had been holding a steady 55mph for approx. 10 min. And began climbing through 65 before it was caught and disengaged. This surge behavior appears to be low-temperature dependent as it ceases in the summer and re-occurs in the winter.
