This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
After operating vehicle under heavy load (snowplowing), the hydraulic clutch line ruptured when the clutch was depressed and the hydraulic fluid ignited on the hot exhaust system. Note: There was a recall (NHTSA campaign id number : 99V115000 ) issued for the exact same problem with this make/model/year truck with a V10 engine verses the V8. The heat from the nearby exhaust pipe exceeded the temperature rating of the hydraulic clutch line material causing it to rupture.
There are two recalls for this problems #828 & #838. They do not include the 1996 two wheel drive, the clutch hydraulic is the same and we had the same problems. They fixed it at 98,000 miles and the same thing happened 15,000 miles later. Their fix did not fix the problem. They installed a shield but the plastic clutch line runs next to the shield and touches. Plastic next to metal melts and the line burst causing or can cause a fire. They will not fix it again. The recall also need to be expanded..
