I was driving my truck in city, normal driving conditions, and the transmission was shifting late, and I also noticed a smell of burnt fluid. I got out and noticed tranny fluid leaking all over the ground and on the exhaust. I got under the truck and noticed that the transmission fluid cooler line was leaking fluid at the connector, on the tranny side. It was shooting fluid onto the exhaust and leaking onto the ground. I checked the fluid and smoke was coming out of the tranny dipstick tube as well.
Consumer states that Dodge Ram had her stranded in the mountains for 3 days, before being rescued the plastic reainier in the transmission cooler pressure line quick connect fitting hose melted and sprayed fluid all over engine. The engine began to smoke and she thought it was going to catch on fire. She called the manufacturer for help but because it was not a recall she would not receive any help in getting it repaired.
The vehicle experienced the same defect with the transmission cooling lines as stated in recall 97 V 084 000. The vehicles VIN was not included in the recall.
Consumer stated that the transmission fluid cooler line disconnected from the transmission spewing coolant all over engine. Transmission ulitmately failed. Incident almost caused a fire.

While driving vehicle stalled out. Transmission blewout which was caused by pressure clip on line blowing off, all the fuel ran out.*also, there were 5 recalls, dealer only fixed one, hood latch.
While driving transmission fluid poured out of vehicle onto the road, and caused vehicle to smoke. This was due to the retaining clip coming loose. Dealer has seen.
While driving about 55 and when engine started smoking consumer drove off road. Then, found out that transmission oil was all over engine. Took vehicle to dealer for repairs on the plastic transmission lines. The transmission failed prmaturely, possibly due to the transmission oil leak.
Transmission colling line is leaking from heat exchange unit onto exhaust unit. Dealership informed consumer vehicle was not a part of recall 97V084000 due to VIN. The local transmission shop indicated that there were numerous diesel vehicles with this problem.
Consumer was traveling in late evening and when turning on headlights, tailights and parking lights didn't come on. Those lights came on after wiggling headlight switch. But, there was a burning smell coming from dashboard. Connector to harness had melted. Recall 97V084000/ transmission cooling lines on Dodge, Ram light duty trucks fits the same description as consumer's problem.
Transmission lines are leaking because of defective fittings. Dodge is aware of problem because of recall campaign # 97V084000. But, recall only concerns gas engines and not diesel. The transmission lines are rusting due to inferior quality of original parts.
Recall 97V084ooo/transmission cooling lines. Less then two years after recall repairs, problem was reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further details.
95V056ooo/hood assembly:latches; 97V084000/transmission cooling line; 97V199 000/fuel tank rollover valve, and 00V135000/ignition swtich wiring. Consumer received recall notices since Mar 1995, and still was unable to get dealer to honor the recalls because of no parts being available. Dealer would call and tell consumer to bring vehicle in for a part that was available. However, when consumer arrived the part was already given to someone else. Asking help from NHTSA in this matter. Feel free to provide any further details.
Plastic clip that holds transmission cooling line has worked its way loose, causing transmission fluid to spray onto turbo charger, almost resulting in a fire. Chrysler denies that there is a problem, however, the dealership is replacing the lines for vehicles under warranty. Vehicle has been repaired, but owner wants reimbursement.
My automatic transmission cooling line on the pressure side has sprung a major leak. It would appear to be the same as and be covered by your campaign number 97V084000. Chrysler tells me that my truck is not affected. If not, I don't understand why. Is there any way to obtain an official list of the vehicles affected?
