I had purchased my truck used, Certified Pre-Owned and felt that I got scammed on a truck that had possibly been in an accident the days prior to it being cleaned, detailed, and made ready. I went to pickup the truck after work the week following purchasing it. I thought I noticed a little scuffing to the rear and front bumpers chrome that wasn't there when I bought it. I dismissed it as the vehicle seemed to be fine driving and I really liked it. A week after owning it I noticed the paint faded on the hood in two spots and the rear passenger side door didn't close properly. I contacted the dealership and they claimed they did not have any record of any body repair done to it.
I went to my local body shop because the clear coat was letting go severely at this point. They said that it was an old painter's trick used at car shows to quick fix a ding that didn't cause the paint to be immediately exposed. Basically, the dealership had heated the clear coat with a torch of some sort, it make the clear coat level out but ultimately allows the coating to fail. I was out $1400 out of pocket to repaint the whole hood of the truck and repair the rear passenger door area where the clear coat was hazy.
The shop that did the painting said they were strongly suspicious that the vehicle had been in an accident because there were several bolts that had paint chipped from their heads that should have not had any damage to them if they were never removed. Needless to say I learned a lot about the Mac Haik Dealership in Temple, TX.
