First manifold went out at 95000km, then the other side went out at 11500km. In both cases the bolts on the manifold broke. Noise was a pain to listen to especial until manifolds warmed up and leaked less. Dealership was fine to replace.Tthank goodness for extended warranty as this would have cost about $1200 a pop to fix.

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L

First of all, I apologize for posting this a little late but I had a positive experience and I feel you Ram owners should know. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT 4x4 with a 5.7L Hemi. Both exhaust manifolds where leaking and the engine was emitting a loud 'Tick, tick, tick' noise every time I would start after the engine cooled down, particularly first thing in the morning. I knew this noise to be leaking exhaust manifolds and dreaded to even take on the job myself, let alone have to pay to have it done. With a little internet research, I come to realize that this was a very common issue with the ram trucks and it was covered under the powertrain and/or emissions warranties. The problem here in Canada is we don't have the standard warrany period that they have in the US. Mine was only 5yr./100,000 Km powertrain and 8 yr./100,000 Km emissions. My truck was out of warranty at 108,000 Km! I have some good news for anyone else that is in this situation. FCA approved the repair with no resistance at all. I wrote an email to FCA Canada and explained my situation. The very next day at around noon, I got a phone call from a very nice lady and she told me to bring it to my local dealer. She gave me the name of the service manager and told me to call him directly. I spoke to him that day and the next day, the service manager called me to make an appointment and he informed me that it would be covered under what FCA calls 'good will gesture'. I brought my truck to the dealer, got it back in two days and now it's perfect. They found 6 broken bolts on one side and 7 broken bolts on the other, the manifolds were warped and the shields must have been rusty. They replaced everything on both sides. The manifolds, gaskets, bolts, studs, nuts and the shields. It never cost me a dime. All new! I was informed by someone not affiliated with the dealer or FCA, that the exhaust manifold bolts were defective at the factory and that the torque specification was too much for the defective bolts. Also that there was no issue having the work done because of the risk of exhaust gasses entering the cab through the heater intake below the windshield. If you have this issue and you are out of warranty, call your dealer or FCA. It might save you a small fortune. Good luck!
