Truck not fixed. Engine has knock or tick type noise at start up and when put in gear. Goes away after about 5-10 minutes or when engine warms up some. Start hearing noise about 3 months ago. Have not yet had it checked by anyone due to noise goes away after running a while. Noise is loudest on first start up in the morning. Noise coming from right side of engine compartment.

I purchased a 2009 Dodge Ram new. I started using two quarts of oil between oil changes at 3000 miles. The mechanics at Dodge City in McKinney said this was normal oil consumption. I was told the same thing at two other Dodge dealerships in the area. I didn't feel their reply was honest and still don't. The engine light came on before the next oil change and I had to add two quarts of oil on my new Ram. It has the 4.7 flexfuel engine and I like the gas mileage and performance. I developed a ticking in the bottom of the engine. I was told while under warranty that it was typical though it didn't do that when I got it. The rear seal went out of the rear end and was under warranty. I had a sixty thousand mile tire warranty that I purchased however the tires wore out completely at 32,000. I found bolts missing from the fender wells. I heard that Dodge almost went bankrupt and owed money to their suppliers. My vehicle was short on bolts on all fender wells. One mechanic told me they left the bolts out so mudflaps could be added. My thought was how would one connect the mud flaps without bolts? I figure he was feeding me the every day standard BS that Dodge uses on customers until their warranty runs out. I figured I had bought a lemon. It was a single cab and later found I needed a Quad. I traded one day rather than fool with the nightmare I had. The truck has never been driven past 55mph. It doesn't use oil as I change it every three thousand. I have heard that the block is too thin to keep the oil cool or transfer it through the engine fast enough. Thus we get varnish build up from heat. I am worried about that down here in this Texas heat. I love the engine even more so than the Hemi because it can use E85 which is cheaper when I go North where they sell it. I am upside down on this truck and still owe a lot of money as my trade-in, 2009 trade in was only worth 13,000. I could have purchased a diesel for what I owe on this basement model 1500. I figure bigger oil ports, or maybe and extra oil cooler would help this engine if the engineers ever decide to address this problem. My 2010 is starting to get a tick in the same place as my 2009 did. I am a 100% disabled veteran and am old. This will probably be my last truck if I live long enough to pay it off. It has plenty of power and I towed with it one time. It pulls really great and handles even better. The 4.7 didn't notice any strain as it has more than ample power. I sincerely believe the oil system needs better engineering and I would have a 300,000 mile engine. I did get 24mp gallon on a trip to Ohio in cruise control. I was trying my best to do so however. It won't average that in town driving. I have the 392 rearend which helps. I don't like the 17" tires as these are worn out at 40,000. These Texas roads are like sandpaper however I don't believe any tire would get 60,000 in this Dallas area. I am replacing with the most cheap tires as I know they will last as long as the name brands in these conditions. The haul/tow mode is really nice with plenty of extra control. I like everything but the tires but am stressed really bad as I suspect premature engine wear in spite of how much I baby this truck. If you can afford it I would buy the Cummings Diesel. It is really the only one that will last forever. The 4.7 is not reliable only due to its oiling system and thin engine walls. The mechanics and service representatives lie for the corporations failure to upgrade the engineering on the oiling system of their engines. They got a government bailout and need to start building engines as well as Japan does with the Toyota and Honda. Don't waste your money on an extended warranty. You will end up paying thousands in co-payments for fairy tales that the dishonest service representatives tell you. Nothing beats a Quality product made in the U.S.A., however it takes an honest corporation to re-gain the confidence of its consumers. Truck not fixed YET! Have had to two different dealers.Do not think they even tried. Said they would contact Chrysler have heard NOTHING. Engine has knock or tick or clatter type noise at start up and when put in gear.Goes away after about 5-10 nin or when engine warms up some. Started a little over a month ago never made noise before. One Dodge dealer had another 2010 on the lot with 20000 miles done same thing only louder. I AM Not sure of origin almost sounds like its coming from around pulleys or on top around that area. Anyway guess I'll keep griping until fixed it is not right. What happened to a good trouble shooting tech? This is crazy also paid 2000 for extended warranty hell cant get nothing done with the regular warranty.

I bought the 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 L Engine new. After about 1000 miles or so a ticking and/or tapping/clacking noise started in my Engine along with a hesitation. I complained about this problem to my Dealer, and I was told the noise was "normal." I then asked why I was not told about this noise before I bought the vehicle as that is consumer fraud - since the noise in the engine would stop any rational person from buying it used or new unless they knew what it was and it could be repaired.

Then suddenly, the Dealer said the noise was NOT normal, and the dealer attempted to fix the problem six times, including shoving in a used motor without telling me - the noise dissipates for about a 1000 miles each time they work on it, but it ALWAYS returns. In addition the vehicle hesitates, and stalls, and although I bought it to pull a trailer (towing package) any tiny tow causes the vehicle to labor and stall.

I change my oil every 3000 miles and I use premium filters, and have performed all required maintenance. The problem is worse than ever and now I have a used motor to boot.

Now Chrysler is saying all this does not impair nor reduce the value of the vehicle. What utter nonsense!

If anyone else has experienced a tapping noise or similar problems with a 4.7 liter engine please contact me. My lawyer wants to put together a class action lawsuit.

I filed a lemon law complaint and that Arbitration is pending, but if they stack the deck against me in Arbitration with a bunch of lies, this issue is most certainly going to court. Contact me if you want to participate in a class action against Chrysler for all of the problems with the 4.7 liter engine.
