When backing out of the driveway twice and a parking spot once, all separate days (was only able to find the date on one occurrence, so I would rather not do two incorrect reports) I will put the column in reverse and it won't catch the reverse gear, it stays in neutral. The light on the cluster shows that it's in reverse, but the transmission does not catch reverse. I don't know if this is because of whether it's a failure of either an electric or vacuum operation (not sure which the 2009 Ram uses) or whether the transmission is just bad, but I know Chrysler is notorious for bad transmissions, and my 2006 Charger had a lackluster transmission as well.
The first time this occurred was shortly after buying it in November. I was in the driveway, which has a slight uphill grade. Put it in reverse, the truck rolled out of the driveway fine, but right as I got to where I would need to give it a little gas to fully get out onto the street, she wouldn't go.
The second time this happened (the date listed, absolutely confirmed by checking the date of a video I recorded the same day on 11/15/2020), I was trying to back out of a spot by the neighborhood park, put it in reverse, gave her some gas, and she didn't budge.
The third time this happened was pretty embarrassing, to be honest. Much like the first time, I was backing out of the driveway, and when I got to that point where I needed to press the gas, she wouldn't give. This was in front of our gardeners who were there at the time, just watching me press the gas and not moving except for the roll because it was in neutral.
All three times the light on the cluster said it was in reverse. I believe all three times were in the month of November. All three times were between 48,000 and 49,500 miles on the odometer. I haven't had any other problems with the truck's transmission (yet. Just can't wait to get this gear slipping problem from fourth to second and vice versa I'm reading about), except a weird occurrence where the right headlight turns off for a second while switching from reverse to drive (yeah, I dunno either, but I caught it on video).
The truck would slip into 4th gear randomly, sometimes staying in 4th gear for weeks. Even if I shut it off the truck sometimes would reset and I could drive normal.Other times, no matter what I did, it would stay in 4th. It's apparently dodge's limp mode.
when going up a steep hill, pulling a trailer, this piece stays in fourth gear until I hit 20 km/hr. then shifts to 2nd gear, bypassing 3rd gear then goes crazy, spinning tires and can't afford to keep replacing tires. took it in several times to dealerships, and they keep saying nothing is wrong because my check engine light isn't on, and is a normal thing. apparently the new trucks shift the same. any suggestions besides blowing it up?
