In years past ....the defrost function has been a default in case of malfunction. Not any more. My defrosters failed while driving home in the extreme cold and heavy wind. This is a serious safety issue let alone a very common bullshit ongoing problem over time and many vehicles. This needs to be considered for a recall or extended warranty coverage.
Update from Feb 27, 2015: Oh there was a recall that was done to fix a programming issue with the defrost.....but this is beyond that.
