While driving on the parkway I suddenly lost control of the steering. Thankfully as part of my employment I am required to take an evasive MANUEVER COURSE which came in very handy. This allowed me to avoid an accident, if someone else was driving the truck I am certain there could have been severe consequences. I brought it back to the Ram dealer and they advised it was the left tie rod, but the 1500 was not part of the recall so I would have to pay for the repair. I find it very suspect that all the other Ram models have had the same issue, yet the 1500 is not included in the recall. Very dangerous, and shameful on the part of RAM. I will never again purchase a Ram truck.
I am sorry to say that this is the THIRD Dodge truck I have owned that has had the same, EXCEEDINGLY DANGEROUS occurrence of this problem. WHAT CAN BE MORE DEADLY other than losing all of your brakes at once, then having your tied rods break, forcing the total loss of STEERING. This happened at 138,000 km. on this vehicle (my Son's). Right front tie rod end. It happened at 148,000 km on my 2006 Dodge diesel and on my 2003 Dodge Diesel. On the 2006 after a $1338 repair, Dodge did recall N62..... stating the left was a possible problem covering their ASSES for the real problem. The towing company in Edmonton, Alberta reported to me that this is their most common event with Dodge saying "OH IT'S JUST THE USUAL" and when I asked HOW USUAL they said about THIRTY A MONTH. Now they are saying so sorry NO RECALL ON YOUR 2008.... (yet).
Thanks Dodge for risking my families life 3 #$%^&*% times and failing to take ownership of this constant problem. I wonder how many people will have to die. It could have been me and my Son now.
Wish I lived in the States. One of your complaints says it cost about $ 188.
I bought this truck cause I have always had great luck with them. But the truck was 3yrs old I had warped rotors and now I had to get outer tie rods replaced at 4yrs.old. It only has 42000 miles on it ! I thought Dodge built a truck to Last longer than this. I will consider a different truck next time! DODGE YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO SAY RAM IS RAM TUFF!
Right side Outer Tie Rod failed. It seems there is a recall on every Ram except the 2008 1500 Quad Cab. Seems like a bad part or under designed part all around.
Had it replaced because it needed tires (only 32K miles on the crappy Goodyears).
I don't do any heavy off roading, but I do drive on dirt roads and beach at slow speeds.
Dealership told me my truck's outer tie rod ends were shot. With only 45,000 K on the truck my question was why as it is still basically new and I don't 4X4 off road. No one at Big 4 Motors could give me an answer. I called Chrysler's recall center and was informed there has been no recall on them. Service writer at Big 4 Motors phoned me and said he would get a hold of Dodge and see if they would do anything about it. I never heard back from him. I replaced the worn out tie rod ends with Moog ends and oddly enough they are guaranteed for life. I'm thinking I may look elsewhere on my next truck purchase.
