I purchased this vehicle used from Mike Duman Auto Sales in Suffolk VA on June 1, 2011. It was 2-1/2 yrs old with 29,795 miles on it. Test drove well, hardly any rust. Paid book value for it ($18K) at that time. On June 14, 2011 went to fill up the gas tank first time and gas spewed out (overflowed). Because truck was still under manufacturer's warranty, was told by Mike Duman Service dept to take it to a Dodge Dealership for repair under manufacturer's warranty. Took truck to Greenbrier Dodge in Chesapeake VA who confirmed gas tank was indeed defective. Replacement gas tank on backorder (1 month) until July 18th. On July 19th gas tank replaced at Greenbrier Dodge. First, Greenbrier Dodge did not give me back my 1/4 tank of gas that was in the vehicle at time of drop off. On July 19th after picking up truck, I put 1/2 tank of gas in it. That evening the gas cap error light came on. Returned truck to Greenbrier Dodge the next day. The Greenbrier Dodge mechanic just cleared the error codes. On July 20th it came on again, so he disconnected the battery & cleared the error codes. Then on July 21st when it came on again, we were asked to clear the error codes by disconnecting the battery ourselves. Not acceptable. Gas cap error message kept coming on daily through to July 25th and I kept taking it back daily to Greenbrier Dodge. All this was done without their "paperwork", then on Aug 5th found out that mechanic was let go. From this point onward work orders were issued. On Aug 9th, the check engine light as well as the gas cap light came on again.
It is Nov 1, 2011 as I write this and I have since taken my truck back to Greenbrier Dodge 20 times (both documented and undocumented) since July 19, 2011 and to date this "put gas in truck, wait 1 day then gas cap error light comes on, wait 2 days then check engine error light comes on) problem is not yet repaired. Keep in mind, too, they had my truck incapacitated on their lot from Aug 31 to Oct 19 waiting for backordered parts. I'm paying a monthly payment for a truck I cannot even use. I contacted Chrysler Dodge Corporate and put in a complaint (case is currently active with them). It's my opinion that Dodge cannot repair this truck. They keep looking at the EVAP error code numbers and replacing same parts (gas cap has been replaced several times) as well as the gas tank and the hoses expecting to get a different result. Back on Aug 15th I gave them my opinion it's the sensors or the computer (electronics) but I doubt they'll check that out until my truck is off manufacturer's warranty in about 2 weeks.
In my opinion this may not be an isolated incident because over 83 people in the US were waiting for the same backordered hose from replacement gas tanks according to the info I received from Dodge. The 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 manual says not to drive the vehicle for an extended amount of time if the check engine light is on because once that light begins blinking damage will be done to the vehicle. Shouldn't Dodge repiar or replace this truck? It is under manufacturer's warranty. By the way, as of this date Dodge Corporate lawyers have not answered the BBB's lemow Law lawyer working on my case. My opinion? My opinion is "Dodge Never Again".
