fuel spews out when filling up

Dealer want to charge for checking the problem, 166 dollars plus. Now wants to charge for steps to correct the problem. 2 step cost 461 dollars and if gas tank needs to be removed, that's additional charge. Looking at maybe 1,000 dollars or more. This problem is on recall. They are passing it on to the consumer. My truck is fine except I can not put fuel in the tank. I am mad and angry and feel I am being had.

Ram 1500 Mega Cab Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,000 miles

My wonderful 2008 RAM MEGA CAB has been an outstanding truck. It has 102268 miles on it but I had a problem so slight I did not report it. The fuel tank was only accepting gas at a slow speed and steadily got worse! It has gotten so bad it will only take gas at a small amount. I have a truck that I can not use unless I can squeeze a dribble of gas in and get a 1/4 of a tank in about 45 minutes.

This is my second complaint to Carcomplaints.com.

The BAR in Irvine CA. tried with the dealer but to no avail and even tried the manufacturer! He told me I should try small claims court! I finally spent $150 for a complete diagnosis of the problem and they said it was the fuel filler neck with the roll over valve. I gave the authorization to replace the filler neck and they said they did. After I picked it up I went to a gas station, and low and behold...the same problem was still there. I was told by the service manager to take my truck elsewhere, they wouldn't do any more for me or the truck!

Ram 1500

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

I'm not the owner of the vehicle but my uncle is. It started this morning - he called me complaining that the fuel was not staying down, that it took him about 5 minutes to just put in 3 dollars worth, if he was lucky. He gave up and was going to try and contact a local mechanic. I'm currently at work and I was voicing my annoyance to one of my co-workers and she said she also has a 2008 Dodge Ram and is experiencing the SAME issues!

I called my uncle immediately back and told him he needs to call the dealership to make a complaint. Turns out Lonestar Dodge said there is no recall for this. When there should be! Just to have them diagnose the issue was going to be $104.00 - which is completely ridiculous! I can imagine how much more it would be once the problem is figured out. I'm gonna have to make the call myself it seems to get this figured out.

I have no problem with Dodge and the truck has been nothing but great to us but this seems to be an ongoing issue for some people. If your truck is doing this place make it known! It's a serious matter and could save a lot of time and money for everyone else.

Ram 1500 Off Road Sport 4x4 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,800 miles

This problem sucks ass! It takes about twenty minutes to fill it up (when empty). No matter how slow you fill the tank the pump will shut off as fuel back fills up the filler tube. I've researched this issue and it's apparent mine isn't the only 1500 doing this. One guy said he took the relief hose apart behind the filler tube, sprayed WD-40 in and let it soak an hour or so, then alternately blew and sucked on the tube until he heard the check valve ball start moving, he said that fixed the problem. Others have said they were told it takes a new tank at the cost of 700$. I'm going to try the fix I described but it's bullshit!!! If the problem affects so many why the f*** isn't there a recall by dodge? It's a royal pain in the ass! I'll always have a dodge, I love them, doesn't mean I should be happy about this, I live in Wisconsin and don't like looking forward to standing outside in the frigid weather that's just around the corner filling my tank....

Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,000 miles

I bought an 08 Ram 1500 Laramie with 5,000 miles on it and was told there were no issues with the vehicle. The first time I went to fill up, gas spewed out at the end causing a fairly significant amount of fuel to spill down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. I took it into a Dodge mechanic and within 30 minutes they had it back to me and I was told they adjusted some tube. Well, the problem has never went away and Dodge won't do anything about it. It seems there isn't enough air in the return pipe or something. With this and the TIPM/4x4 Sensor problem I have decided to sell this thing and make a handsome profit.
