A D V E R T I S E M E N T S
I purchased a 08 Dodge Ram from a dealership in Feb. 2016. I am the 3rd owner of the vehicle. I have 6 more payments which the total cost will about $13,000. The truck was great for about 6 months. I purchased the vehicle with 149k, there is now 197k.
Randomly, I got in the truck at night to turn on my lights and my interior lights, dash and radio were out. After few weeks we suspected a fuse had blown. We replaced it and it worked fine. Randomly it will blow so we keep replacing the fuse. About a year ago I started having issues losing all power to truck, when I shut the truck off and went to get back in, I had nothing, no power to lock or unlock the vehicle. We suspected it was lose terminals on the battery, so we replaced them and the problem was fixed.
Dec. 2017 the truck began died randomly while driving. Upwards of 65 mph the check gauge light would come on and the entire truck would lose power. I have almost had 6 accidents. I have crashed into a ditch, pole and one was with my 9 month old daughter in the vehicle but because there was no visible major damage, we didn't file a claim on insurance.
It has literally come to the point I am scared to drive the vehicle without my husband in it. The fuel pump started acting up we thought and suspected it was the reason for the stalling issue. So the company in which I financed the truck with was nice enough to send me the part because we moved from Texas to a small town in Arkansas.
We replaced the fuel pump and for about 2 months the truck ran like it was brand new. On the way outta town the the belt busted taking of a pulley. The check gauges light came on and the truck read as if it was overheating. We assumed because of the mileage the belt was probably old. With my daughter in car once again, we had to fix the truck on the side of the road. Problem solved.
Suddenly the battery was acting as if it was no good. The voltage gauge would go up and down some mornings it wouldn't start causing us to have to jump it off once again. We replaced the battery, issue was fine for a about a week. All of a sudden while in the idle position the truck overheated no lights or codes or actual evidence that the truck was overheating was found. It happened for about a month so we decided we needed to replace the thermostat. The truck stopped overheating.
A week later I was driving 2 doors down and the truck went limp, no warning. It acted as though I had no fuel delivery. We thought we may have gotten bad gas, however the problem hasn't happened again. Now the truck is literally dead. After using the truck for a week no issues. We turned the truck off 5 miles away, went to turn it back on and the truck would crank but not run. We had to have it towed back to our house where we have gone over the entire vehicle there are no leaks, no codes, no lights on, no problem with the fuel pump, relay, air, vacuum, throttle body, spark plugs.
We've checked to make sure the software in the vechicle is up to date, unplugged the battery and reconnected to check the wcm. The truck cranked, however would not stay started. We have traced the issue back to the tipm. Now I'm in a serious predicament because I purchased the car from a used dealership. They are not under warranty to fix the truck and I've found over 800 consumer complaints asking Dodge to offer a recall and have been denied, because they said they can't find where it would be dangerous to the vehicle yet.
I have been in so many close calls and I have a 9 month old child who has been in the truck with me during the time. I've had to be pulled from a ditch because I couldn't stop when the truck out of the blue stalled while driving.the posted speed limit of 65mph. My husband barely made it across the freeway when the truck stalled with my entire family in the truck, and now I'm stuck in a small town trying to find a way to repair a vehicle that has a known defect that could injury or kill a family member.
I've owned 3 Dodge trucks and this is the first time I have ever had an issue like this. However it makes me 100% sure because of the way Dodge has handled this issue. I will never own another Jeep/Chrysler/Dodge because I can't risk my families safety. The truck is basically totaled unless I can get the dealership owner to put the it in the shop and pray they can find the part to replace it with. I still have $3,000 left to pay it off.
Update from Mar 17, 2019: I had to return my truck to the dealership after it was looked at the truck was going to cost about 7 grand because of the electrical and i only had 5 payments that equaled 3k left so now i am without a vehicle at all the company wont do anything about it and they wont fix it because it costs more than the value or my remaining balance i got 44k miles out of it and spent 10k in payments
