Blend doors broke about 3 years ago and I just had them fixed because Dodge will not cover their manufacturer defect. This cost over $800 to repair.

Ram 1500 Long Horn 5.7L Hemi

I bought the truck with 85,000 miles on it. now has 95,000. I live in Missouri, its February and my feet are now freezing. I can direct the heat to the defrost or upper vents but not the floor. Add me to the list of victims. I will have to fix this myself and will let you know. it wont be soon as it is to cold and I don't have a garage. To be continued....

The Dodge/Chrysler dealership informed me that the blender door is broken because of a manufacture defect. The plastic part that breaks is a common and it is very labor intensive to repair it. The quote from the dealership was $1400.

This is a design flaw that has impacted a lot of Dodge Rams. I know for sure 2007 and 2008 Dodge got away with this big time because it is not a safety issue. The defrost always works for visibility, the big problem with this is the cost to repair is huge dollars, approx $1500 to $2000 in Canada, this also affects the deprecation of the truck. My frigging cold feet, they knew about the problem and continued to install this design into the truck basically telling their customers f you, you are gonna pay for our mistakes.

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L Flex

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

My heater blender, door flapper stopped working. I replaced the control knob thingy, at a cost of $100. I was able to get a little heat to the floor but still had hot air blowing in my face. Any one know what the cause/fix, and estimated cost? Since I'm quite sure Dodge will rape my wallet to repair it.

the issue comes from the infamous blend door breaking. from the research i have done, dodge has had an issue with this on ram trucks since the first generation and has yet to come up with a reputable solution and continues to this day to put in faulty blend doors in all models of ram trucks. Seems like an issue that could be easily fixed by dodge with a little common sense and maybe a new design. It astounds me that a reputable company such as dodge would be so cheap as to not fix such a flawed design.

the problem lies within the blend door. This door will raise for heat to the feet and lowers for windshield defrost.Over time, (when i say time i don't necessarily mean years it could be in as little as 6 months depending on the vehicle) the stops on the door will wear out and break, causing the blend door actuator to go past the stop point and brake the door, causing the door to break and fall into the default defrost position. Dodge doesn't seem to see this as a problem because the more important issue is obviously the driver being able to see. But if you live somewhere other than sunny Florida and it may get cold your feet have the tendency to freeze quickly and make for a very uncomfortable drive. The wintertime is miserable.

To Fix the problem through the dealership your looking at a 200$ heater core plus labor to install. Trust me the labor is way more than the part. It takes an average of 8 man hours to tear apart the dash and break down the interior to even get to the heater core. so when you calculate it out, bare bones say you get a good dealership that "quotes you 12 hours labor and 200 part at 60$/hr labor your looking at a grand total before taxes of 920$. seems ridiculous just to get heat to your feet right?

But don't worry. Frustrated individuals like myself have found refuge in one company with a somewhat simple solution. google heater treater and find your vehicle.

the kit comes with the solution. If you have any mechanical bone in your body you may be able to complete this on your own. It involves removing the entire dash and installing a door. But don't think this is a an afternoon task. this is a task to be completed in at least one weekend and at a minimum 3 cases of beer for frustration.

I have not done this yet to my truck but plan on making the fix with the heater treater. I have although undergone the monumental task of removing the dash and trying to fix the problem. it came down to me putting a block in the heater core to make the door stick in the midway position in between floor heat and defrost. a simple and almost cost free fix, just be prepared for always having feet and defrost blowing when in a defrost or feet setting.

for any questions on the free fix feel free to email me Jon.kuehler@gmail.com

Same problem as I am reading here on Autobeef. No heat to my feet - period! This is a 2008 Dodge Ram and it looks as if everyone else has an earlier model - you would think they would have fixed this by now!! I wouldn't even consider to take to the dealer since they will take you on fixing this - the only time I went to the dealer before was for a locked front caliper at around 15000 mi, the truck was only a year old and they recommended $1200 in other work? differential/transfer box fluid change, transmission fluid change, etc !?! WHAT?!? For the heater I'll try the fix reaching up through the motor/glovebox and see what I can do...

Headed out for work one morning & turned the heater on & it wouldn't blow on the floor! This is a pain in the ass when you have a sinus problem because it blows directly on your face. I bought this truck thinking that dodge had made some good changes from years ago but I guess they just had the wool pulled over my eyes. If I had know they don't stand behind their warrenty I would not have bought the damn thing. We owned another 1 ton about the same time we purchased this truck & it has been in the shop for numerous problems as well, we will not buy a dodge again!!!!!!!!!
