While driving down a state route my "Check Gauges" light came on. A few minutes later my "Airbag" light came on followed by the "ABS", "Parking Brake" and "Check Engine" lights. My voltage indicator went from midlevel to LOW and then peaked at the halfway point before rapidly losing power. My radio went off, followed by my dash lights and a loss of power to my truck. From a dead stop to starting to move would take my truck about 4-5 seconds and 2500 - 3100 RPM, everything seemed very sluggish. Within about five minutes my engine had shutoff and I was not able to start my truck.
My battery was obviously dead and I realized that I was having major problems with the alternator. I bought a re manufactured one and replaced it myself and then replaced my battery. When I started my truck the "Engine Throttle Control" (ETC) light came on and after letting my truck runf or about 10 minutes fthere was a repeat of the original gripe. After the engine shut off I waited about 5 minutes and then I started the truck again and this time the ETC light stayed on for only about 30 seconds.
When I had my truck in neutral and depressed the gas pedal it would respond normally and the tachometer would run up to about 3000 RPM. When I released the gas pedal the re was a notable 1-2 second delay before the engine reduced speed and the tachometer dropped to about 800 - 1000 RPM.
I have not had any problems since with my truck.
