The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving approximately 55 mph, the front passenger side wheel seized. In addition, the driveshaft detached completely. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the water pump and front passenger side driveshaft were replaced. The contact was uncertain of the repair part that was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 15V313000 (air bags) and 14V796000 (power train). The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. Upon attempting to exit a roadway, the driveline fractured, the wheels seized in the rear, and the vehicle swayed towards oncoming traffic. The vehicle was unable to move while in a two lane roadway and was towed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was waiting on the manufacturer to determine where to tow the vehicle. The failure mileage was not available. Parts distribution disconnect.
1)slight burning smell. 2)right rear wheel fell off, almost leading to a severe crash. Axle sheared at bearing hub. 3)Dodge replaced axle shaft, bearings, and housing under warranty, took parts back.
Rear axle locked up broke output shaft of transfer case, twisted the pinion gear in half while driving, in town this could have caused a wreck, and possible death.
