dodge sucks. this light comes on at will then goes off at will. this piece of sh*t system should be replaced by dodge on all.it is defective and they don't care about their customers what so ever. the gov.should step in and make them take care of this problem but they won't.wish i could shove this truck up dodge's fat wallet ass.

the 600 bucks was two visit to a dealer ship and finally a Good Year Tire shop that took the time to fix the problem.

About 2 years after I bought the vehicle the check engine light has been coming on, it seems every couple of months.When the vehicle was under warranty it was covered but that has expired.I was told by dealership personnel that happens when there is a emissions problem(i.e.sensor, catalytic converter). In order to get the vehicle inspected, they will not even consider it if this is the case. If that wasn't bad enough the mechanic at Firestone told me you have to drive the vehicle about a hundred miles before the ECU(computer) will see that the problem is fixed on their testing equipment. So I had to drive with a bad inspection sticker even after I had the problem fixed. Also, these vehicles burn out bulbs. I have even been asked by owner's of the same vehicle if this is the case. Except for these few chronic issues, the truck has been very dependable!

Over the last few years, the check engine light has come on many times. Always a different problem. I have spent nearly $8,000 on these problems (of course never covered by warranty). It is just amazing so much can go wrong with a Dodge Ram TOUGH truck with so little mileage and no towing time to speak of. I will never buy another Dodge product.

This might help some of you with regards to the flashing red lightning bolt and check engine light (my truck is a 2003 dodge ram 1500 w/5.7l hemi, 86,000m). Having the same basic problems as everone on this site with the flashing red lightning bolt, I checked the codes myself (cycling the key on and off 3 times) and found 2 codes. Code P2106 & P2175. I checked around many places on the internet and found that generally it had to do with the throttle body being sludgy/dirty (that was the situation with mine, I was surprised that it was really dirty/sludgy). The articles simply recommended that you buy a can of carb cleaner, remove the intake resonator, spray some of the carb cleaner on a rag and THOROUGHLY wipe the inside surfaces (be careful of the sharp edges of the throttle plate as they are very sharp, I know I cut my hand a couple of times)of the throttle body and butterfly (throttle flapper plate inside the throttle body, push it open and clean both sides and inside surfaces as best you can).
I did this about a week or so ago and have not had any problems so far. The only thing is to reset the check engine light, I have a Diagnostic Code Reader and you can hook it up the OBD 2 port under the steering column and erase the codes after you fix the problem which is what I did. Hope this helps some of you. So far the fix has worked for me.

Just wondering how to fix it? The oil level is good? and everything seems to be working fine other then the engine hesitates sometimes... I just wanna get the dang check engine light to go off!

My check engine light continues to go on and neither I nor my dodge dealership can figure out why or what's the problem or how to stop the light from going on and staying on. Mpg is down and the truck's overall performance is down. The engine has 5,000 miles on it and the light has been on for about 4000 miles.
