we bought a 2002 dodge ram from a auto place in phx az. we didnt know there were any problems until last week when my husband had to take apart the engine. it had been making nose for about 2 months we thought it was lack of oil. well come to find out the 8th lifter wasn't getting any oil. it was cracked and brunt. we ask an expert and he told my dad to take the hole damn thing to the scrap yard. the sad thing is we have only had the truck for 2 years. know what am i supposed to do by a new engine (too much money) or a new truck?

It all started with little bit of a odd idle. Then it started sounding funny a couple days later. Then the truck would shake when maintaining a speed around 40 or so but if RPM's increased it would be fine. Then the heat gauge would go crazy and the heat would only work if the accelerator was being pushed. Then i finally just was like f*ck this i guess i should do something about it so i took it to a local garage and it ended up being cylinder #4 was misfiring due to a cracked head gasket which i decided to take it to a different shop to get replaced because i ain't working on it when its 10 degrees outside. While getting worked on the shopped called and told me that the timing chain guides where really bad and didn't know why they got so bad. This all in total costs 4500 dollars.

I bought this truck new and took very good care of it, much more care than i did with my intrepid that has a 2.7 L engine that suppose to fail at 80,000 miles or so well thats got 180,000 on it and have no problem. There is some defect in this engine

Truck was in shop several time for bad miss.Dealership couldn't find. Finally asked them for compression check on #4 cylinder-low pressure. Took it to good mechanic,fed up with dealership bs! He found the cracked head and said it was defective. There was no warning on this truck that anything was wrong other than the intermittent miss (sometimes ran good). Funny thing if the tail light goes off the warning system will drive you nuts, however, blow your engine, no alarms, bells, or whistles. This is a pos vehicle! Never will buy a Dodge again. Was a birthday gift for my husband, his first new truck in 2002, and he is super disappointed after 6 years. This truck had regular preventive maintenance and still looks good, doesn't run worth a crap or didn't have to put up 2500.00 to get it hopefully back in running condition.
