My 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 was recalled in 2003 for a problem with the wiring harness at the base of the steering column, which I had repaired. Now I'm having the same problem, only this time the blower motor has gone out completely. My husband has health issues, including COPD, so driving without air is extremely uncomfortable for him.
I called Chrysler and they said to take it to the dealership to have the problem diagnosed. The diagnostic fee is $125. According to Chrysler even if it is related to the recall, since it has been more than 10 years, it probably would not be covered under warranty. So now I have a diagnostic fee and repair costs. I took the truck to a local auto electric shop. The owner is taking my truck in next week to repair the problem.
This has been a royal pain. Since it has been fixed once under the recall, if the same thing happens, it should be covered regardless how long its been. Chrysler has already used substandard parts on the original vehicle, nothing would stop them from using them again.
