I purchased a used 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab. During the test drive I noticed a lot of play in the steering wheel. At that point, the truck required new tires to pass inspection so I didn't think anything more of it and assumed the new tires and a front end alignment would take care of the problem. I previously owned at 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab. Even at fairly low mileage several years ago the previously owned truck had the identical problem. I wasn't the person responsible for the service and maintenance so I never checked into it further as to the resolution,if any .I purchased the 2001 Dodge with approximately 57,825 miles on it a few days ago and drove it from Va to Md. I mentioned the problem when I dropped the vehicle off for the Md inspection to be completed. The mechanic believes the solution is to replace the steering gear box and that the truck was properly aligned already.

I can't believe that Dodge did not recall this truck, it is so dangerous, there is no cure for this problem, it is a design flaw. Even my local Dodge dealer here in Eureka CA told me that the 2001 and 2002 Dodge Ram Truck had a problem with wandering. They finally changed their design starting in 2003. If I get into a accident because of the wandering I know the first people that are going to hear from my attorney is the Dodge people that design this truck, enough said.
