My 1999 Dodge RAM is on it's 3rd Transmission. I've had to replace two torque converters, one in 2006 and one in 2014. The transmission itself has a very poor cooling function and it gets very hot when driving over mountains. The previous owner just installed a new transmission in it before I obtained it under factory warranty. I've heard that there is a solution to this cooling problem that mechanics use to keep the transmission under safer operating temperatures.

Ram 1500

  • Automatic transmission
  • 113,000 miles

the transmission slipped w/o warning and we are in the middle of the desert (300 miles away from my residence) remove the pan and clean it good, removed the filter so i can just replace it when i get home. we were able to drove another 350 miles but when i started the engine and drove just few feet it slipped again. After about 2 hrs we figure it out to switch the gear from drive to neutral fast about three times and the damn transmission will work fine. we were able to drive another 450 miles and got home without any problem, however everytime we stop or slow down we need to switch the gear again from drive to neutral 3x and fast. So far i am thinking to replace the engine and transmission with diesel if possible. My next car willl not be a dodge that is for sure.

My transmission started slipping a couple of months ago and the truck has less than 90,000 miles on it and it has never been driven very hard.
