My husband was letting his 96 Dodge warm up after a big snow and ice storm and someone stopped to tell him it was on fire. The fire started under the bed of the truck. They tried to put it out with extinguishers and water but to no avail it was completely lost by the time the fire truck arrived.

I own a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.2 liter engine. The engine oil light would flicker when stopped at a stop sign in drive. I took it to the Dodge dealership and they said that the engine would have to be replaced due to the wear. I have used mobile 1 synthetic oil since the breakin oil and never let the oil in the vehicle over 4,000 miles. Each time the oil filter was also changed. The vehicle has 106,000 miles on it and the engine replacement is costing me $4.700. I've been told that the 5.2 liter engine does not handle synthetic oil well. The oil does not return to the oil pan fast enough to keep the bottom of the engine lubricated. I find this hard to believe but I've never wore out an engine before. My question is how can an engine wear out when it was taken such good care of? I've had several other failures of this vehicle dealing with U-joints, steering shaft, failed fuel pump, and an unstable suspension requiring a $500 piston assembly to repair but the repair did nothing to help.

Fuel pump on my 1996 Dodge pickup failed to pump gas to engine in August of 2000, while parked. The cost of replacement was approx. $450 dollars. I am concerned only because I paid $25000 dollars for this truck and figured that it sholud of lasted at least 100,000 miles. It just irritates me that Chrysler will not, nor have they offered to look into this defective part, fuel pump. Also, transmission started slipping in August of 2000, after several attempts to contact Chrysler, nothing has been done to correct this problem. The transmission slips (automatic) when shifting into third. This should also be considered a safety hasazrd.

Fuel pump went out while setting at a gas station, I shut off the engine, put gas in and the pump must have died right there, this has happened to my fathers truck ( a 1994 Dodge) and a neighbors truck (after 1994 Dodge) also.

Transmission shudders at 45 mph, does not shift and shakes when going into 3rd or overdirve, and jerks and slips, dealer has replaced the valve body and reconditioned transmission and replaced convertor, transmission continues to lock up and jerk. Driver and passenger side mirrors were both replaced due to being loose. Emergency brake handle came off and was replaced. Fuel gauge read empty with 12 gallons in tank, dealer replaced fuel pump module. Wiper blades weren't cleaning windshield, dealer replaced both wiper blades, windshield washer was inoperable, dealer replaced washer motor. Vehicle has experienced many problems with the interior and dome lights failing, dome light keeps blowing fuse and dealer has replaced the strip lighting and fuse box door and repaired the open circuit to junction block. Radiator cap was replaced due to low coolant. There was a brake fluid leak, dealer replaced caps for the master cylinder, the brake and ABS light were illuminated, dealer replaced rear wheel speed sensor and wiring. Passenger side vent window would not open and leaked air. Vehicle only gets 13mph on highway, consumer states this is poor gas mileage.

My truck would not start. First I was told it needed a new battery, then a fuel pump and finally a new ECU. It is impossible for all of these components to fail simultaneously while the vehicle is parked and shutdown. I was told by the parts man at dallas Dodge that the ecus are designed to fail prmaturely. Another customer also stated that the same computer in my turck is installed in a number of chrylser products and that it fails when other components fail (in his case when the ABS failed).
