While driving from cold start engine performed roughly, and smoke came out of the exhaust tail pipe. Consumer changed fuel, but there was no improvement in performance. Consumer was told by a dealer that the intake plenum gasket was the cause. Consumer was aware of others with same problem.
Consumer called manufacturer in reference to recall # 97V084000. Recall only involved V10 engines, not diesel engines. Therefore, this vehicle was not included due to VIN., and exhaust pipe located on the other side of transmission. Even though dealer refused to perform the recall, they still recommended that the upgrade be performed at the owner's expense.
While the truck was parked it caught on fire near exhaust pipe. Owner had just driven truck about 3/4 of a mile. Owner was able to put out the fire. The dealer was notified about the fire. The truck has not been repaired.
