I had noticed what I thought was a rim leak. Mechanic found the rim was cracked on the inside of the r/f tire. The crack was located under the lead weight. There was no evidence of impact to the tire or rim to indicate an object was struck. The lead weight was undamaged.
The service lady at Adventure Dodge in Willoughby, Ohio stated whomever put the lead weight on caused the rim to crack. I advised her, the tire are original. When the lead weight was removed, the outline of the weight was in the tire and on the rim, which indicated the weight had been there for some time. With the crack exposed, there was no impact mark to indicate an object was struck, nor was there any damage to the tire. Adventure Dodge insisted I struck something. When I asked why there was not evidence of a point of impact, the sevice lady then asked in a questionable tone "You trying to tell me these are the original tires?" Insinuating, I bought new tires after the damage to the rim. I told her, if that was true, where is the damage on the rim to indicate the point of impact?. Obviously, she had no response. She did state the rim was out of round to indicate it had been struck. If so, why was there no damage to the tire?. Had the crack been on the outside of the rim, I may have seen you point. Except; there was no damage to indicate a collision occurred.
