By taking care of my car, ie. Washing and waxing it, I ended up keeping a known factory defect from occuring untill after their three year warranty. Then 70% of the paint pealed off the roof and trunk of my car when I washed it one day. I was told by the dealer that the manufacturer knew about it but was never forced to issue a recall or notify customers. When the manufacture was contacted they said that it was out of warenty but out of the goodness of their heart they would pay $285 toward having it repainted at a Dodge dealerbwho would charge me $2,800 because the problem is with the electro primer and the car would need to be stripped to the bare metal and reprimed.
Nine times out of ten, when driving my 1996 Dodge Neon, the speedometer and odometer do not work. The speedometer usually stays at zero, however, it sometimes fluctuates between zero and fifteen mph even when traveling with the flow of traffic between 40-55 mph.
The consumer noticed paint peeling off of the vehicle immediately after the purchase and saw a few other vehicles of the same color with the same problem. Mr scc
When driving vehicle started missing when driving at 30 mph. Engine check light was illuminated on the dashboard when the head gasket blew. Consumer has contacted the dealer.
This car has had 3 transmissions and now needs another with only 56,200 miles. It has also had a starter, radiator, battery, 7 front right tires(none from nails etc.),2 head gaskets, egr valve, multifunction switch, 2 sets of brakes(which still make noise). Our mechanic has told us that the 96 Neon is a lemon. The brakes are made from a metal that rusts very quickly and the head gaskets are faulty and will continue to have problems. What can I say about the transmission"? is 4 too many for a car with only 50+thousand miles?" help!!!!( dot number: Tire size: 1857014 )
I have contacted your Agency on several ocassions with no reply or results. Just by browsing the complaints of other Neon owners, it is obvious this car has problems. If you cannot intervene on the behalf of the consumers, then why waste our time. We may as well just put it in the hands of lawyers. No safety defect listed in the summary.
I have had the trunk repainted once befor for the same reason while under warenty, now it is pealing off the top, the warenty is out, and no one can help me, I cant even get hold of the paint to do it my self because Dodge no longer carries the the prodect........just looking for a liitle advise or help, if any information is needed please email or call, cirix98@hotmail.com.......... thank you
Excessive tire wear in the front....head gasket blown and leaking oil badly...excessive gas consumption, (180 miles to a 12 gallon tank) dashboard cluster (all guages including, speedodmeter, odometer, and fuel and temp guages) does not work at all now...was shorting out and coming on from time to time but does not work at all now....( dot number: Tire size: P165/80R13 )
Instrument panel (dash gauges) has a short and does not work, this includes the speedometer, odometer, and fuel &temp gauges. Engine head gasket is blown and is leaking oil badly, and excessive tire wear on the front of the car... car is experiencing excessive gas consumption... goes about 180 miles to a full 12 gallon tank of gas...it passes everything but a gas station... a tech at the dealership (ragland Dodge, angleton Texas) told me that these are very common problems with the Dodge Neon...( dot number: Tire size: 165/80R/13 )
I have talked to several auto mechanics about this particular defect, and have been told that this is not an uncommon problem with the Neons. I'm hoping that enough people will report this defect, so the manufacurer will issue a recall.
Every 18000 miles the head gasket has failed on the vehicle...brakes failed one time had master cylinder replaced...accident, brakes being investigated to see if accident could have been avoided...airbags did not deploy in frontal collision at speed of 15 mph...seat belt failed in frontal collision at 15 mph
