CarComplaints.com Notes: This is a classic example of why you should avoid the first model year of a new car. Sure, it's new and shiny but there's going to be some growing pains.

The 2005 Magnum has problems with the gear shifter getting stuck, a shaky and sometimes stalled engine and transmission failure at 75,000 miles.

Let someone else deal with those headaches.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Magnum. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the fuel tank needed to be full to prevent the vehicle from stalling. The contact noticed that the seal to the tank was leaking. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the control valve failed causing fuel to enter the purge line to leak and needed to be replaced. Hunter Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Fiat (1130 auto mall dr, lancaster, ca 93534) was contacted however, informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 204,000.

Engine stalls multiple times after refueling while driving, usually when slowing to turn or slowing to come to a stop. I just purchased this vehicle, and have not been able to get to a dealer to have the problem checked, but I understand this is a problem with this engine and there has not been a recall to correct.

From approximately August 2008 through August 2013, vehicle would stall at low speeds after filling fuel tank. Replaced fuel tank in August 2013, which corrected the issue. In response to NHTSA action number PE13016, Chrysler extended the fuel tank warranty on some 2005 and 2006 Dodge Magnum vehicles. My vehicle, which was manufactured during this time period and seemingly had the same issue as the affected vehicles, is not covered under Chrysler's warranty extension. Chrysler seems to have made a decision that will allow unsafe vehicles not covered under their warranty to continue to operate on the road.

Immediately after refueling to a full tank engine stalled and almost stopped while at a stop light only about 100 feet from gas station. While stopped stumble occurred two times, but never stopped completely. This is clearly a safety issue since a stall could cause traffic problems, brake booster degradation and driver insecurity. This second occurrence in a month.

The car will stall every time after I fill up the gas. It 's very scary because I don't know when the car will die on me when I'm on the road and cars are behind me and just very afraid of someone is going to hit me from behind when my car dies on me suddenly. Yesterday I went to fill up the tank ( not all the way full ), after I drove about 1 block, the car stalled. I was unable to turn the steering wheel and the brakes lost power, I ran off the road and down an embankment to a parking lot right front tire blew out as I hit the curb. Some minor body damage.

After filling up the tank with regular 87 octane and traveling less than a mile the vehicle stalled. I would restart the vehicle and it would stall again several times until about 10-15 miles it would subside. I realized after several fill ups there must be a correlation so I took my 2005 V8 Magnum into the dealership. The dealership stated that it would cost between 1,500 to 2 grand to evaluate and fix the problem which they thought had to do with the fuel tank. Since I could not afford the repair cost the only remedy was to stop short of filling up the tank. No stalls occurred if I would fill up the tank 3/4. this went on for several years until one day I was distracted and filled the tank up 100%. it did not stall at low speeds but when I got on the highway stalled at 55 leaving me in an unsafe situation (not having control of the steering wheel). Fortunately I was strong enough to manipulate the steering wheel to the side of the highway. I was fearful to begin again at high speeds so I placed my flashers on and traveled several miles at 35 mph with several stalls to follow. Now it is may of 2014 and the dealership has no warranty or recall noticed on this vehicle.

Drove vehicle for about 30 minutes at 70F ambient. Turned off vehicle and was away from it for about 10 minutes. Restarted engine and it had little if any compression and made a bad metal banging sound when started. Engine destroyed. Dealership analysis revealed #3 intake valve seat fell out of head and destroyed #3 piston and cylinder requiring a new engine. Vehicle has 91,000 miles.

After filling the fuel tank to full and driving away from the station it will stall. Sometime right away from leaving the pump or shortly thereafter. Usually about the time it takes to get to the intersection near the gas station. If I am careful to not fill it past 3/4 full its ok. Although I have had issues with it restarting at 1/2 tank now.

Vehicle stalled shortly after filling fuel tank in December, 2013. Restarted immediately, but stalled again, and continued stalling for the next mile or so. Now, every time I get gasoline, I must use caution for the first few miles, as the car will stall at random times. I do not "top off" the tank when filling.

My Dodge Magnum R/T, 2005, periodically stalls for the first several miles after a fill-up. This was sporatic at first, but now happens with nearly every fill-up. Normally it will be a momentary event while under power, but if I am stopped and idling the engine will die. It will typically restart right away.

After filling my gas tank without topping off, my car stalls within the first 300 feet of the gas station and is then hard to start. Once it's restarted, for the next 40-60 miles of driving, my car hesitates and will often stall at any low speeds or stops unless I drop it into neutral and rev it up. 60-100 miles after a full tank, the car will buck when coming out of a turn and then stall if I let off the gas.

When car has just been filled up it begins to stall. It will stall pulling out of the gas station. Then it will stall again while driving on the way back to the house turning corners, at stop lights or just driving straight. It does not make any loud noises it just cuts off while driving. It only seems to happen the first day or two after filling up. (I do not drive very far) then it drives normal until the next time the car gets filled up. Then the car will stalls again.

Running low on gas on January 15th I stopped at a gas station to refuel. I purchased 91 octane, placed the nozzle in the gas tank tube and began to refuel. Once the pump clicked I replaced the gas nozzle, tightened the gas cap, started the car and drove off. Less than two minutes later as I was approaching a stop light the engine shuts off and the oil light comes on. I quickly placed the gear in park, and attempted to restart the engine. After trying three times it finally turns over and I am able to drive off. One minute later it shuts off again as I am beginning to make a right turn into a driveway. Same scenario as before. Now every time I fill the tank to the point where the gas nozzle clicks the engine will shut off multiple times within the first 10 miles of driving.

Soon after filling the gas tank of my car it started to stall at very slow speeds. The car cut off completely and the oil light came on. The car started up as soon as I tried to turn it on again. After doing that stalling multiple times, I took it to the dealer and they replaced the egr value. After filling the gas tank again the car began to stall again. When I took it to the dealer a second time they said they would need to replace the gas tank. While the 2006 Dodge cars with the same features have been given a lifetime warranty on the gas tank, I was told there is no warranty on my car for this issue on my 2005 Dodge Magnum.
