CarComplaints.com Notes: This is a classic example of why you should avoid the first model year of a new car. Sure, it's new and shiny but there's going to be some growing pains.

The 2005 Magnum has problems with the gear shifter getting stuck, a shaky and sometimes stalled engine and transmission failure at 75,000 miles.

Let someone else deal with those headaches.

Magnum RT 5.7L Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,235 miles

I purchased this vehicle brand new with 14 miles in 2004. Takes very good care of the car. June 2012 I took the car to the dealership for a oil change and because the car was making a funny sound. I picked the car up they stated they didn't hear the noise so when I drove the car away it sounded like a airplane, returned to the dealership they stated sound like my torque converter but it will be OK to drive.

Within 48 hours my car stalled on a busy bridge. Not good. Repair for this was $4000.00 to replace the CLK Mercedes Benz transmission Dodge installed in the car. Did I mention this happened with only 38245 miles on the car? Now in the year of 2014, February 19, check engine light pops on, car running fine. I parked the car until February 24, 2014, tried to start the car and it was dead. Battery was charged, all the lights worked but wouldn't start. Had the car towed to the shop. 1st response from the shop to me was your car dropped cylinder #4 and now it has a broken piston and cylinder head damage, this will cost you $2700.00. This is with 68431 miles.

I'm so over this car. No warning whatsoever. Based on information from the shop the motor looked like it was bad from the beginning. Not happy with my Magnum.

Update from Apr 16, 2014: I received my car back from the shop 2 months later. I towed it to the shop on February 24, 2014 didnt get it back until April 11, 2014. Was the wait worth it. Well i spent 2258.36 to replace #4 cyclinder, Piston, heads resurfaced, oil change and a sensor. With this said the auto shop told me i need to get the left side fix soon because it will go out eventually. Wow how does Dodge make this cars to last only 10 years and out. Im afraid to drive this car long distance or even to the porential that the car is suppose to be able to handle. 4 sale sign is in the window and posted on craigslist. Time to get a Nissan, Honda, or Toyota. Im over this magnum. Dodge should be ashame of themselves not to have a recall on this crap by now.

Magnum 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,000 miles

blown number 1 cylinder twice

Was without a car for 6 months....finances were a part of that reason. Engine light never went out...4 months after and 4000.00 poorer, needed the head re-done, new plugs, ignition coils, idler arms replaced and another $1000. Now its happening all over again. Garage said its not their work that was the problem.....its the 2.7L engine with a design flaw, they said it leaks coolant into cylinder but i haven't lost any coolant. Have also gone through 2 catalytic converters because of number 1 cylinder. Engine light never goes off, no inspection sticker and have to keep putting in oil. Would never recommend a dodge with the 2,7L.

Damn engine light wont go off. Car maintenance is pristine & kept up. I deal with any issues immediately. Light came on, took it to tire kingdom since I was buying new tires. They "put it on the machine" whatever that is. Couldn't find anything other than I needed to replace my air filter. Did that. They recommended getting it more thoroughly looked into. For an additional $185 the dealership found nothing to warrant the light but they were able to turn if off. Stayed off for maybe 20 minutes. Been on ever since. WTH!!!
