CarComplaints.com Notes: This is a classic example of why you should avoid the first model year of a new car. Sure, it's new and shiny but there's going to be some growing pains.
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.

Shifter interlock broken. Unable shift out of park. Vehicle was driven normally, parked ok, turned off engine ok, removed key ok. Next time started ignition ok, engine running with foot depressing brake pedal, unable to shift out of park. Brake lights and brakes operate ok. My car is overheating after I bought it in June I cant turn my air on or anything I had stuff fixed and it still over heats I dont know what to do anymore
Since I have purchased the car there have been numerous issues. I did purchase the car as is, I am leasing it at $250 month. The total cost of the car is over 11,000 dollars and there are too many issues and problems with the vehicle. The lights for instance seem to have a shortage of some sort, because they come in and out. The rear airbag light comes on periodically and will not go off. There seems to be a problem with the ignition switch as well. I have spent a good amount of money on this vehicle, I would like to get my moneys worth. I am driving an unsafe vehicle and I have two children that I am responsible for driving around.
While driving down the highway or sitting in park, the bas light on the dash will come on, when it does this the engine goes to 800 RPM idle and the transmission goes into neutral, rendering of the vehicle in capable of driving until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, is placed in park, ignition shut off and restarted. Then you can operate the vehicle again until the next time it does this, which may be one minute or a week. This is extremely dangerous as it is happening to me going down the highway a couple of times, at which time I have to pull over to the shoulder shut the vehicle off restart the vehicle and then try to pull away. Twice I've almost been hit by semi tractor-trailers as the vehicle is coasting with no power. Please help me, I am in fear for my life if I drive this vehicle.

ABS/tsp malfunction light comes on intermittent. Dealer states steering control module needs replacing, $400. After repair, malfunction light continues.
My ABS lights came on over the course of the last year 5 different times and went out without repair work. The lights finnally came on and would not go out. I replaced the ABS controller without issue, however I am the curious type. I opened the controller box to examine (post mortem if you will) and found a classic case of non-lead solder tin whisker groth shorting out several points on the board. The links below are several pictures of the tin whiskers that are classic in non-lead solder. The links below the pics are some details on tin whisker info. I own the 2005 Dodge Magnum. Ion January 15, 2005 at approximately 5:20 P.M I was driving at a rate of 35 mph. I was about to come to a stoplight when I applied the brakes. The car did not respond and it accelerated in speed. I tried to apply emergency brakes but it sounded as if it was dragging tires.. I had to swerve in order not to hit the car in front of me. I immediately pulled over to the side of the road where I put my car in park, it then idled all the way up to the 5 mark. It steadily idled at this rate for about 5 minutes. I did not think it was going to stop so I shut the engine ff. I was very scared at that point and did not know I should continue to drive it. It felt like someone else took over my car. It was a very frightening incident. If I hadn't taken advanced drivers course I wouldn't have known what to do and could have seriously injured someone.
