CarComplaints.com Notes: This is a classic example of why you should avoid the first model year of a new car. Sure, it's new and shiny but there's going to be some growing pains.
The Fix To Your Shifter Problems - This just happened to my 2005 Magnum, found this online and it worked like a dream. A couple hours of your time is all you need.
THE FIX - I've got a 2005 Magnum that this just happened to. Could not shift it out of park. I found this very helpful, a few hours of your time is all you need. I did it to mine and it works like a dream.
I Purchased this car as a used vehicle in july 2005.It only had 15000 original miles. So it was almost like a new vehicle.Since I owned this car I have never had a problem out of it,Until Now!! If Dodge knew that this was a problem or a recall on this vehicle,Then why should I pay for the repairs.I know that my vehicle is out of Warranty so now the repairs will be my expense. I called the Dealer and spoke with someone in the Service Dept. And that person said that it would be $300.00 To $400.00 for the Repairs. When I removed the center Console I found a Pink Colored Plastic Piece just laying there by the Gear Shifter.I don't know were it goes or were it came from. But this could be the cause of the Problem!!
My 2005 Dodge Magnum was running great, parked it, went to get in it again, and wouldnt come out of park. After looking on the internet, and researching this problem, it seems to be common. A piece of very cheap plastic inside the shifter housing that has tension pulling on it ALL the time, had broken. By the research we did, it would cost 300-400 dollars to repair. However, took the shifting housing out of the car and disassembled it, and took the plastic piece off and took a piece of wire and repaired the plastic piece and hooked it back to the spring and reassembled the housing and placed it back in the car, hooking up all cables and wires. Total job, 2hrs. Can find details on how to do it on the internet.
Every time I park on an incline and turn the car off, when i put it in drive the gear shift is almost impossible to put in drive. It has a loud, hard, stiff shift into gear. Also going from reverse to park to drive has the same effect.

This problem with the shifter not moving into gear is a total pain in butt.
I have to turn the car off and restart it to get it out of park.
I just know someday soon it will stay in park and I'll have to have it towed for big bucks.
I also have to tap the brake pedal and it sometimes helps to get the gear shifter out of park position. Anyone ever had this problem? and whats the fix?
Had this problem for 2 years. They kept adjusting something but the problem always came back..now that the car is out of warranty, they found the problem in the shifter and are charging me $349 to repair it. This seems to be a common problem and maybe we should all get together.
