The check engine light turned on and off for several months. I first thought it was the gas cap. Kept driving the car and one day while going on the highway, the check engine light turned on and the car would not drive past 50 mph. The engine would vibrate with no power at all. I slowed down and drove it to the dealer. The dealer did an engine pressure test ($350) and determined cylinder #6 was bad and the only solution was to replace the head gasket and replace the heads.
My car has 73,000 miles so it's out of warranty. The dealer quoted me $4900 to do the work. Took the car to another mechanic, and they said it needed a new engine, and will probably replace with a used one. I always did required oil changes with synthetic oil. I read somewhere Pentastar v6 engines (the Journey engine) had similar problems and warranty was extended, but up unto 2013 model but it was not available for this year's car.
