Purchased vehicle from reputable dealer. Pulled car fax.. no prior reported collisions. Sitting still in parking lot to start vehicle and passenger head rest released (with great force), hitting driver in back of head. Unable to reset manually.
Taken to deal and told not under warranty. No previously reported complaints. Told that the car must have been in accident to cause it to trigger. Showed copy of Car Fax with no record of damages. I have had the car less than 2 months. Has not been hit in rear, have not bumped into anything . No problems with vehicle before.
Dealer wants to charge to replace headrest. I feel this is unfair and should be considered a factory defect.
Spoke with insurance coverage and not a covered damage.
I feel this is a safety issue, and concerned for passengers who are caught off-guard with the forceful release. It almost pushed my head into steering wheel.
Filing formal complaint with Dodge.
