The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the starter failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, when the vehicle stalled and he was then able to coast onto the emergency lane. The contact tried to start the vehicle multiple times when blue smoke was underneath the hood. It was difficult for the contact to get out of the vehicle since the electronic locks failed to open the doors. The contact was only able to get out of the vehicle by engaging the smart key. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the starter was melting and the vehicle was out of gas. The failure occurred two additional times at a low mileage prior this incident. The starter was previously repaired. The failure mileage was 5000. The current mileage was 1012.
