I like to take care of my cars extremely, everything by the manual and beyond. I drove my Dodge Journey from Sault St. Marie Ontario to Acapulco Mexico (My Dodge Journey was only 35,000 Km) . When arriving to Acapulco I started to notice a big Jump when shifting to reverse, I pulled over and read the manual about the transmission. Following the guide I turn my car again and now it was jumping on every gear. I was pretty scared because I thought my transmission was going to die.
I called Dodge and they said I was still under warranty so I took my Journey to the Dealer in Acapulco Mexico, they kept the car for a week and when picked up they told me nothing was wrong with my car and that just a reset on the transmission computer was needed. I wasn't using my car very often in Acapulco because every thing was pretty close and I prefer to walk almost everywhere. On June the 6th I decided to come back to Canada so I started my Journey with my Journey. When arriving to Mexico City everything was nice, two hours latter I stop the car to fill my tank. When starting again I felt a little jump when shifting to D . I read on the internet that a lot of people was having this problem and that this thing was normal (I felt this kind of jump when new) so I decided to keep going because nothing was flashing on my board and the car was running smoothly.
I stop two times more for gas with no problems or jumps but just 20 kilometers before Laredo Texas my car stop receiving orders from my foot, I mean the speed just dropped from 100 Km to 30 km and the engine light was on. I pulled over and called a tow-truck and they toke me to a Hotel. Call the Dealer in Laredo Texas and they told me that my warranty was not active any more. I tried to explain everything but they didn't care, I called a very well known mechanic in Laredo, they picked the car and towed to their shop where they found that my transmission was broken in every single aspect. They couldn't believe that the car was running like that and it was impossible to repair it. I had to order a transmission from another place and they found one in Texas (It took 4 days to arrive and 1 to replace it).
Now I am in Cotulla TX with $ 4,500 short in my pocket because of the new transmission and labor ( $ 2,400 ) and hotel and meals for me and my family. I have made this trip more than 5 times with old cars and because of that I decided to get a new one. It is it's first trip and last I think. I am so frustrated and just hoping to get safe to Canada.
