Driving down the highway, 10:30 at night. The !@#$%! car fills with smoke. I scream to my husband pull over. Smoke everywhere. Pop the hood, smoke clears. Got to make it home. Next morning, pop the hood. AC belt flipped over on itself, and melted. Okay, by a new belt. New belt, we watch smoke. Wonderful. The AC clutch went. The damn thing is grinding against itself. Get a new clutch. $70 bucks. That old clutch is one hell of a bitch to get off. The new one ain't going on. Why? Because one, that AC unit doesnt belong in our car. What kind of car did it come from? I'd be damned if I knew. And two, that AC clutch was built into and with the AC unit itself. That's why we couldnt get the old one off. We could buy a new one, but for $325 without labor and fill and charging. No thanks. We could buy a rebuilt one, but for $295, mind as well by a new one. Or we can say f--- it, enoughs' enough, put the windows down and just drive faster. If anyone has any other ideas i would love to hear them.
