Rear passenger restraint does not retract back into position. Dealer has inspected vehicle. Transmission failed three times. Front seering rack failed left front ball joint failed. Drive belt failed at 28000 miles. Water pump failed. Radio failed. Right front struts failed three times. Brake failed three times before 50000 miles. Hydraulic cylinders that hold hood up fell off. Heat/ac duct system fell down.
I bought this car in 1995.......it has been in the garage for major repairs so many times I can't count them...but I do have documentation....I called the nys lemon law number but was 2 weeks past the statute of limitations...they told me to get a lawyer......since the statute has run out....fox Chrysler has had the car for at least 3 weeks in the last year & has given me a rental car (under my extended warranty)...I feel forced to sell this car because the warranty will run out May 31, 2001....it has had the transmission rebuilt, the A/C replaced, the rotors were replaced at 13982 miles & the replacements are bad again....they were just turned at 30000 miles...the turn signals, door locks, headlamps (had moisture in them), airbag cover on passenger side was raised & curled from day 1...the tie rods were replaced in 1999 at my cost because fox said that they were not covered under my warranty.....I am looking for an attorney to get this vechile replaced under the NY lemon law....and would like to know if there is any other recource I can take....this is a partial list of the problems with this car that I purchased new.
The rear seat of my car was smoldering and giving off a lot of smoke and fumes with the exhaust problem. I was very alarmed since the back seat is very close to the gas tank. On the transmission and air conditioner both systems have had to be replced 3 or 4 times and usually about every 50K.
On a on ramp, during rush hour the transmission failed without any warning this was very, very dangerous, had to have it towed to a repair shop, they told us that they work on alot of the Dodge Intrepid 's transmissions, and they said it was a catastrophe failure on Dodge's behalf.
Left head light has developed an interior coating cutting illumination;assembly has vibrated loose. Right headlight socket melted through the back of the headlight assembly. Transmission hessitates shifting esp when cold.

Unknown exact dates/mileage; do not have information accessible at this time; purchased vehicle w/56, xxx miles...do not have service info prior to my purchase. Have had nothing but transmission problems and more minor problems since purchase. Vehicle has had all work done under warranty with exception to work performed at central Dodge that was advised was covered by warranty and then picked vehicle up and service and rental charges not covered as advised. All other work performed by ozark Chrysler Plymouth Dodge, hwy 65 & cc, ozark mo 65721 (417) 581-2776. Do not know what action can be taken at this point...another reman transmission just put in this week!
Called Chrysler (after dealer declined) despite transmission fluid & filter change every 20,000 miles. They told me they cannot help despite 76 similar complaints on this site alone. Canceled my order for the Grand Caravan!! no more Chrysler products for my friends & family & our children!!!
I purchased this vehicle with the intent on having last through the pay-off. I am very concerned about this happening. At 30,000 mile the air-conditioning system went out completely and had to be replaced. At 50,000 the transmission went out and had to be replaced. A transmission was replaced at a Dodge dealer but I was only given 12,000 mile warranty. At 70,000 miles the front-end struts, strut plates, inner tie rods, and other was replace. This front end is still not right as it drifts and has too much play in the steering. Many others with the exact same repairs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes trans jumps back and locks in 2nd gear around 35mph while in 3rd gear under light petal. Only way to cure is stop engine, start again, then trans normal for awhile. Does not downshift to 1st when locked (limp mode?). under light takeoff, shift into 2nd sometimes jerks violently. Other times trans makes all shifts smoothly. Trans is totally unpredictable

This car has given me problems every since I got it I never thought that it would be this bad I can't wait to trade this thing in. I had to purchase front and rear brakes the adjustments had slipped and now the transmission is about to go.
When vehicle is placed into gear it does not always respond to the right gear. When placed into reverse and accelerator is applied vehicle goes forward, and when placed into drive, vehicle runs in reverse. Dealer has been contacted.
Soon after we bought the car we called the dealer. They told us there was nothing that could be done. The warranty was out. They also told me that they did not think anything was wrong and I did not know what I was talking about.the car would make a severe slip/buck when going up hills. I was told this was normal due to the way the transmission was made.I also told them of a gas smell. They denid knowledge of any recalls or service reports. I saw this recall notice in the paper during this summer. The dealer is not in business anymore. The finance company said I was wrong to. I told them im wont pay for a defective car and come to pick it up. They are now tring to collect payment.
