Grand Caravan SE 3.6L

Bought the van used, it would slam into drive whether you shifted slowly or quickly.

Dealership updated software in tranny or re-flashed ECU, seems to have solved it so far (around 1000k) but I've read online that it may not be permanent.

I was hearing these unusual noises coming from van, so on 08/18/2016 took it to Auto Zone they put the engine light tester on it and stated that it was the Torque Clutch Solenoid Circuit which they cannot get because it does not show up in their system also stated that it was a dealer part.

We brought the van in 5 times. They say they put in the computer. Bull. They give an excuse all the time. They said they would replace after the third time. They lied. The van has always been for service. They said you need to put your foot on the brake then shift. Still does it. I am tired of excuses. I will notify Dodge about this.

Grand Caravan ES 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

Bought a used 2013 Dodge caravan at a chevy dealer in Colorado springs. Looked beautiful, took it for test drive. All was ok so we bought it. 2 days later when I shifted from reverse to drive the transmission clunked and I know that is not a good sound. Called the chevy dealer and a mechanic both said it is normal. Sorry I don't believe loud noises in the transmission are normal. I have extended coverage but I have to wait for a complete failure. When and where. Some poor engineering again. Funny how there are complaints and dealers and techs don't know why. Never again.

Grand Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Early on, after purchasing the 2013 Dodge Caravan RT, we notice an intermittent "random" banging noise when engaging the transmission. With our foot on the brake and when shifting from park to drive, but mainly reverse to drive we hear a loud clunk, thud or bang occasionally. It is a solid hit, enough that it can be felt, I'm sure this is not beneficial to the drive train.

Also occasionally there is a shuddering in the transmission at low speed in first gear maybe trying to shift into second gear, maybe trying to shift prematurely, whatever it is abnormal. I have taken the vehicle in several times for this issue, the first time they said they tighten up some kind of nut on the front drive train, however with the sporadic symptoms It was not long before I had it back in the shop, multiple of times over past two years. Lately this noise seem to be getting harder and louder, so today when it occurred I decided tried to research on line what could be causing these issues, that why I here. I'm no mechanic and I understand unless the technicians have seen this or had technical updates sent out warning of this issue it will be hard to diagnosis until it fails. I just trying to throw out dialogue to maybe get this resolved before something breaks and leave us stranded and worse case circumstance for me…..the warranty expires.

Other that that We are very happy with our Dodge.

Grand Caravan Americas Value V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

i TOOK THE VAN INTO 5 STAR DODGE IN WARNER ROBINS GA WHERE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PROBLEM FOR MONTHS.

ON JAN 15, 2015 THEY KEPT THE VAN ALL DAY AND DID NOTHING. I CALLED AT 4 PM AND THE SERVICE WRITER JAMES TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WERE KEEPING THE VAN. I SAID OK, SENDING THE WIFE TO GET HER STUFF OUT. AT 4:20 PM THEY RELEASED THE CAR TO HER AFTER TELLING ME THE CAR WAS UNSAFE FOR HER TO DRIVE...20 MINUTES EARLIER. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT AND JAMES WAS GONE. SPOKE TO THE MANAGER AND ASKED HIM HOW WE COULD GO FROM A BLOWN TRANSMISSION..UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT 4 PM AND AT 4:20 PM THE CAR WAS BEING RELEASED AND AN AXLE SHAFT WAS ORDERED.

IT IS THE SECOND WEEK OF FEBRUARY....NO AXLE SHAFT. I WAS TOLD LAST WEEK THEY COULDN'T GET ONE FROM CHRYSLER. WHAT DO I DO????

Update from Feb 25, 2015: Yesterday after still not hearing from the dealer for over 2 months I called Chrysler in Detroit and spoke with a very helpful person, Helena. I gave her the entire story and said I am ready for a buy back if this cannot be fixed.

She put me on hold for a while then called the dealer. She advised me that the part was in. The dealer never called me. I took in the van today 2/25/2015 to have the axle shaft replaced. Will keep you posted if this fix doesn't work.

Grand Caravan V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,118 miles

Water pump went the first 3-4 weeks after buying it new .Went several times to dealership and had technician out for a tesk drive and still nothing. The last going off, I insisted something be done because the noise getting worst. Even had friends take a drive to hear it. Replaced shocks in January and again in September. NOW I AM Starting to hear it again.

It seems like the transmission does not shift right and has no power at times, but then again the dealer says nothing is wrong. Cannot use the back windows 2 months ago due to a recall in which no parts are available yet. Took the van to get winter tires on and they said 2 rims are bent on same side. Well, hello, I would know if I bent rim's, I am sure I would have a flat tires. So they were balanced and put on the back with bend rims. The tech said he didn't see this before, it must of been a bad set of rims. The rims were new like the van but of course no warranty. An alignment was done and I don't recall me asking them to go it.

Oh, by the way the stripping on door ripped.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.6L V6 Vvt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 6,300 miles

Purchased the 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan from a dealership in late August of 2013 with 68 km on it. By September 2013, when shifting gears, the transmission started jolting so viciously that it sounds as if it will fall out of the vehicle. This happens at least 3 out of 5 times. Took it to the Dealership, they said it needed an update and it was happening because the van was, "learning how I drive". I was also told that if anyone else drives the vehicle it would "confuse" it and try to learn both styles of driving.

The van drove fine for about 4 days before the problem started all over again.

Grand Caravan Crew 3.6lvvt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,455 miles

I bought the van used with 19,000 miles on it and the van drove great. I started taking it to my Dodge Dealer for service, after they did a flash to the transmission they said they had a bulletin on, about a month later the tranny started jerking and shifting terrible. They said it was the nature of the transmission, nothing wrong with it.

About 2 months ago it started slamming into gear when put in drive, I had fluid and filter changed but it did nothing, still the same. If this is normal why hasn't it been doing it and why does it do it maybe 4 out of 5 shifts?

Grand Caravan 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

I have had my Caravan many times at two different dealerships and no one seems to know what to do. Sometimes when I shift into "Drive" it feels as if the engine and the transmission is going to fall to the pavement below because the jolt is so bad. Service Rep at one dealership told me to call Dodge directly and have them open up a case number because he did not know what to do. (Service Rep was in van when transmission "thumped" and "jolted" when I put lever into "Drive".) Problem occurs sporadically, and does not occur every-time the transmission is put into "Drive".

Has anyone else experienced such problems? I have purchased at least 20 new cars in my lifetime, and never had a problem that the dealers could not fix. But now I have two new automobiles, two different brands, that both have problems that the dealers cannot repair. What is happening to our Country!
